Star Wars: Squadrons: How Long Does It Take To Beat?
We're firing up the thrusters as Star Wars: Squadrons is the latest flight simulator to reach for the stars in that galaxy far, far away. While there have been plenty of games that put you behind the controls of those iconic Star Wars ships, few have done it with as much realism as Squadrons.
Although Motive Studios built the game with a clear emphasis on multiplayer and the two modes of Dogfights and Fleet Battles, that hasn't stopped fans picking up the title for its engaging Story Mode. Squadrons has players in the unique position of flying both X-Wings and TIE Fighters. It was an idea that was briefly touched on in Star Wars Battlefront II; however, it wasn't long until Iden Versio has switched sides to fight for the Rebels.
Speaking of Battlefront II, Squadrons fits into a similar timeframe and picks up in the immediate aftermath of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Occupying that same vacuum of space where the Empire comes falling to its knees, and the Galactic Civil War finally comes to an end means there's a lot of unexplored potential. With this in mind, players are rightly asking how long the campaign will take to complete. Luckily, we have the answer.
How long is the Star Wars: Squadrons campaign?
Although hardcore Star Wars fanatics will be looking out for familiar faces like Leia Organa and Lando Calrissian, Squadrons' story hones in on two new additions. You'll split your time between the New Republic's heroic Rao Highmoon, who's part of Vanguard Squadron, and Case Kassandora, an expert pilot from the Empire's Titan Squadron.
With such an emphasis on Squadrons being multiplayer, there were fears a single-player campaign has simply been tacked on the end to tick a box. Does this mean you'll whip through it in just a matter of minutes? Thankfully, this isn't quite the case. With each mission taking around 30 minutes to complete, and some being bloated with extended cutscenes in hangars, you can expect to complete the Star Wars: Squadrons campaign in around seven to eight hours.
It might not be the most complicated story, but hey, you didn't buy the game to be the next Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Also, Star Wars: Squadrons is priced at around £30/$40, making it quite a lot cheaper than your average video game. Of course, the campaign could be longer depending on how many of the side quests you want to suit up and take on. There are also a variety of trophies you can earn as you zoom above Yavin and Hosnian Prime. Still, the main crux of the story can be rattled through in an extended sitting.
What will affect the Star Wars: Squadrons campaign length?
As with all these things, several factors with affect how quickly you get to hop out the cockpit - having (hopefully) restored order to the galaxy. Firstly is the players' ability to pick up the controls. Those who are a dab hand at flight sims should be able to master X-Wings and TIE Fighters in no time at all. Squadrons isn't exactly hard to learn, but it can take a while to get used to the quick-fire controls to stop your ship spinning into an asteroid.
Secondly, there are a variety of difficulty levels that will undoubtedly hinder your progress. When first taking flight, players will be able to select Story (Easy), Pilot (Normal), Veteran (Hard), and Ace (Very Hard). If you're selecting Ace, chances are even the Luke Skywalkers of you out there are going to struggle to finish in the same time as someone playing under Story. Added to this, a higher difficulty level might mean you'll find yourself stuck at certain points and struggling to take down the opposition before you can progress.
All of the above is before you take into account Squadrons' multiplayer and the replayability. Even though pilots are unlikely to return to Story Mode once the final credits have rolled, there's plenty of multiplayer madness to enjoy. Either way, you're sure to have a "blast" as you blow Rebel scum and Stormtroopers alike to pieces in Star Wars: Squadrons.
