Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Reportedly Landing On PS5 Tomorrow
The Force is strong in the latest rumours, as fresh leaks claim the rumoured next-gen remaster of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order could be landing on the PlayStation 5 tomorrow (June 11). Respawn Entertainment's 2019 game charted a new era for Star Wars games and gave hope to not everything from the galaxy far, far away being as abysmal as Masters of Teräs Käsi.
Up there with the acclaimed Knights of the Old Republic games, Fallen Order is often cited as one of the best Star Wars games of all time. Despite the title's relative newcomer status, players have been holding out that a next-gen upgrade is preparing to do the Kessel Run. Now, our prayers could've been answered.
Is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order getting a PS5 upgrade?
According to The Gamer, a next-gen Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is coming to the PS5 on June 11. A British retailer spoke to the site and apparently confirmed the imminent drop of a spruced-up Cal Kestis. A source told the site that they've received physical copies of Fallen Order, with staff being told to prepare for "an announcement and release” this Friday.`
It's not just PS5 owners who'll get to whoosh their lightsabers though, with a planned Xbox Series X/S version also on the way. This isn't the first we've heard about a next-gen Fallen Order. Previously, we were told to look for a summer release, while last month, a Brazillian retailer listed the release as June 26. With E3 just around the corner and so much going on in the gaming sphere right now, it's plausible to believe the release has been pushed forward.
As well as a free cross-gen upgrade for those who already own the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, the next-gen upgrade will include “a number of technical improvements” - that will hopefully include more than just a graphics boost.
An upgraded Fallen Order comes in the wake of Respawn releasing a "next-gen optimisation" update in January. It didn't add too much under the hood, so it'll be interesting to see what a fully next-gen upgrade brings to the table. Even though there's no news on a release for the Xbox Series X/S upgrade, it's likely to be the same day.
Will there be a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel?
Bearing in mind that and Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson called Fallen Order “the first title in an entirely new franchise”, we've been looking out for news on the inevitable sequel. The end of the first game neatly queued up a second outing as Cal Kestis, BD-1, and the crew of the Stinger Mantis just about escaped Darth Vader and heading out on a new mission.
The timing of a next-gen release just ahead of E3 could spark speculation about an announcement at this year's gaming extravaganza, but let's remember, EA is foregoing an appearance and is instead looking ahead at July's EA Play Live. Either way, it looks like Fallen Order is E3's first shadow drop of 2021. For the time being, we'll have to make the most of playing a next-gen Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order until we get to play the next adventure.
