Spider-Man 2 release date seemingly hidden in gameplay reveal
It's been five years since Peter Parker squeezed into spandex and leapt across the New York City skyline for Marvel's Spider-Man, but as we near the release of Spider-Man 2, there's one problem... we don't have a release date yet.
While Insomniac has repeatedly promised Spider-Man 2 is coming out in 2023, we only have a vague "fall" release date. The recent PlayStation Showcase gave us plenty to talk about thanks to the first Spider-Man 2 gameplay, but sadly, it skipped out on giving us a release date.
Is the Spider-Man 2 release date hiding in the gameplay trailer?
Even though giving fans 11 minutes of gameplay let us peek under the hood of the superhero showstopper, there was disappointment that Insomniac didn't lock in a Spider-Man 2 release date. Still, eagle-eyed players think they've spotted the release date hiding in plain sight.
Heading into some serious tinfoil hat territory, YouTuber AndyReloads claims the Spider-Man 2 release date is hidden in a number sequence from the gameplay trailer. During the moment Peter lands on an enemy car and the camera switches from him to Miles Morales, there's a display on the Hummer.
As the sequence reads 201123, the YouTuber claims that this points to a November 20 release date. There are several problems here, and alongside it being strange to hide a release date in a gameplay trailer, there's also the fact a Monday isn't a typical day to release a game.
Spider-Man 2 release date is a thing of mystery
While the idea of a November release makes sense, we're not sure the exact date is on the money. It's possible that the Spider-Man 2 release date has been shunted around, as we previously heard about a September release.
In March, Venom voice actor Tony Todd posted a picture of himself undergoing motion capture and responded to one fan saying, "Looks like September! Massive publicity coming in August. Commercials start dropping in august so I'm told. Hold on to your … and hold breath! Gonna be necessary." He then deleted it.
More recently, one fan called out Insomniac for a lack of updates. This led the developer asking for patience and saying the AAA title needs a little more time in the kitchen. As we've seen seemingly rushed and botched release dates like Redfall, we're happy to let Spider-Man 2 cook for a little longer.
