Someone Just Paid $600 For A Copy Of Skyrim
Almost ten years on from the original release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and it remains in the cultural consciousness as one of the best games of the 21st century. It’s almost impossible to deny Bethesda’s incredible world-building and flawless RPG sensibilities came to a head with Skyrim, a game that more than deserved its critical acclaim and adoration from fans worldwide.
And as a result, it’s likely that most gamers have at least one copy of the title, whether that be from its original release or one of its many reissues.
Which makes it even more surprising that one copy of Skyrim has just sold for a whopping $600.
Xbox 360 Copy Of Skyrim Sells For $600
It was only recently that a sealed copy of Super Mario 64 was sold at auction for an unbelievable $1.56 million, making it the most expensive game ever sold. This makes sense in a way - the game is iconic for good reason and is the defining 3D title of gaming’s ultimate mascot. It’s a huge sum of money, but some could argue that it was money well spent.
The same can’t quite be said for this sealed Xbox 360 copy of the original Skyrim, which has just sold at auction for $600. Six hundred dollars.
The game is still available across online stores and even litter the shelves of most game stores these days, so why on earth would anyone spend this amount of money on a game that’s still readily available, and in some cases, with enhanced quality on the likes of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4?
It’s safe to assume that this insane purchase was an investment more than anything. The more years pass, there’s every chance that the value of the Skyrim copy will rise, and will find a new home as a lot of money is passed around. The owner is currently accepting bids on Heritage Auctions of $900 or more, but for now, there’s very little chance of that sale being made.
This purchase is an unprecedented one - but if you fancy owning a piece of history, that’ll be over $900, please. Or you can have my copy that I bought a good seven years ago if you want, they’re practically the same.
