Sly Cooper "is indeed coming back". That's according to reliable game insider, Nick "Shpeshal Nick" Baker. Things may have been quiet for the iconic racoon sleuth since the last game of the franchise in 2013, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. However, if Baker turns out to be right, the pickpocket of Paris could be picking up his cane and be back to bouncing in the moonlight very soon.

Is Sly Cooper Coming Back To PlayStation?

Posting on Twitter, industry insider Baker claimed that a Sony source has confirmed that a Sly Cooper game is currently in the works. No doubt gamers looking for a bit of PlayStation 2 nostalgia will be thrilled with the news.

The first time the sneaky racoon first swung into action was in 2002 with Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus. After being released on PS2 consoles, the 3D stealth game was highly praised by critics but it didn't do well with sales initially. Yet, the Cooper Gang went on to return in three more sequels, concluding with Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time in 2013 leaving players on the edge of a cliff-hanger.

Nothing has been officially confirmed about the reboot, as of yet. So, it is worth not taking this news as the gospel truth. However, Baker is consistently praised by fans for his reliability. For example, he was correct about a God Of War: Ragnarok trailer appearing at the PS showcase and that Battlefield 2042 was going to be delayed. Also, according to Baker, the new Indiana Jones game won't be available on PlayStation

Rumoured Sly Cooper Game: Fans React

The rumour from Baker sparked excitement amongst Sly Cooper fans: "Sly Cooper is one of my favorite series it was the first ever game I played on my PS2 #cantwait". Yet, there were some who weren't huge fans of the news:

"Am I the only one who would rather have new IP's? I mean I would also love it if Xbox dropped Gears and Halo and did something new with 2 of its best studios." In contrast, another fan claimed: "We haven’t seen Sly since the PS3, so this is an example of a game that should be brought back. I too would love new IPs but this is an exception."

The franchise's original developer, Sucker Punch Productions, may not be involved with the project any more as Sanzaru Games took the reins for the forth game. But, it's clear that Sucker Punch still has a lot of love for Sly. The furry thief got his own cameo in the studio's Ghost of Tsushima with the Cooper Clan Cosplayer trophy.

So, if you're a 3D anthropomorphic thief working on the streets of Paris, keep your eye on the sky. It might not be long until you see a racoon-shaped silhouette appear in the moon on the way to steal your loot.
