Sledgehammer Is Planning A Call Of Duty: Vanguard Trilogy
Vanguard is shaping up to be a very dramatic and exciting chapter in the Call of Duty franchise. Despite many fans insisting that they didn’t need another World War II shooter, they’ve since been won over by the historically accurate campaign and the beta that showed off how the multiplayer would work.
While there are still a few chips in the paint, Vanguard is shaping up to be a thrilling addition to the CoD mythos - and with fans growing tired of Cold War so quickly, it’s long overdue for many.
Sledgehammer Games is clearly expecting the title to be a hit, as it's already got some sequels planned.
Sledgehammer Games Are Gearing Up For A Vanguard Trilogy
It looks as though some of the team at Sledgehammer Games are already considering the future of their works, suggesting that perhaps Vanguard could be joining Modern Warfare and Black Ops as the beginning of a massive series for the franchise.
On a panel at New York Comic-Con, it was alluded to by writer Sam Maggs that there could yet be sequels to Vanguard.
"We came into this process saying ‘how do we make iconic characters?’", said Maggs. "Because we don’t really have that in Call of Duty right now. We came into this being like, ‘who could be our flagship CoD characters’ because we want to make Vanguard 2 and Vanguard 3. We have two more stories that we really want to tell with these characters, so we’re hoping that if people love them as much as we do, we get to continue to tell the story of these people and make them figureheads for this era of CoD."
They’ve got a point when it comes to current figurehead characters - what with the franchise’s return to the likes of Woods, Mason and Shepard in recent years in order to bolster narrative progression. Still, it's interesting to see that the team is prepared to make Vanguard a series even before launch.
When Could We Get Vanguard 2?
Similarly to other Call of Duty launch lineups, we’d likely have to wait a few years for a new Vanguard title, letting other companies take a stab at the CoD formula and the team to work on the sequel. Still, though, Vanguard has to perform well. Presuming it does better than Black Ops Cold War did, the sequels could well be likely.
It’ll be nice to see a new Call of Duty title take over the reins of Black Ops or Modern Warfare, as it’ll mean we’re truly in a new era of the franchise. We might have to go backward to go forward, but Vanguard 2 sounds good to us. They could think of a better title, though. Wait for the inevitable fifth entry called Vanguard.
