If you suffer from arachnophobia, you might want to turn back now. While The Elder Scrolls has become known as a wild world of monsters and magic, it was 2011's Skyrim that really showed us how it's done in terms of world-building. With this in mind, it's no surprise players are still discovering secrets a whole decade later.

Among the various Hagravens, Ice Wraiths, and rogue Werewolves, spiders are a big part of Skyrim. You've probably squashed a tonne of those eight-legged freaks over the years, but did you know, there's a whole secret breed of spider lurking right in front of your face?

What Are The New Breed Of Skyrim Spider?

The Skyrim Reddit has become a goldmine of hints, hacks, and horrors. This time, redditor u/nuclear_bubble claims it's the first time they've come across a new type of spider. Apparently, if you combine Albino Spider pods with gems/soul stones, it will conjure up a horrifying new breed of spider that you can actually launch at enemies. Hooray, eight-legged grenades.

While we originally doubted that this was a brand-new discovery, the thread soon exploded with amazed fans that are rushing back to Tamriel to try it for themselves. Alongside Mind Control Spiders that can briefly take over your foes, there are Jumping Shock Spiders that will leap up from the floor and explode, Jumping Poison Spiders that infect enemies, and the Flamed Cloak Spider that can burn your rivals.

Going full Attenborough, the OP has discovered new breeds of spider that could come in handy when you're caught in a scrape.

What Have Players Said About The New Skyrim Spiders?

One impressed fan wrote, "So they liked the idea of making grenades from fallout, and then made them fantasy... I have 3000 hours and never knew this. Damnit". Another added, "I knew about the other spiders but not the mind control ones. That’s cool. Still learning things all these years later".

A third concluded, "How hard are the pods to get? I'm picturing me spinning in a circle and simultaneously release an invisible minefield and unleashing an army of poison/shock spiders to spread out and kill every enemy in a room, just to leave one or two stragglers on low health to try and walk towards me only to spontaneously combust as a perfect explosive little cherry on top. Is that what you're telling me I can do? CAN I BE THE F*****G ARACHNOMANCER!?!?!?

However, there might be a problem with crafting your own superteam of elite spider soldiers. Albino Spider pods are extremely rare, and most don't respawn. There is a single respawning pod on Solstheim near the Shrine of Kynareth. Still, there's (obviously) a mod that lets them spawn if you fancy a Spidermancer run through.

As Skyrim approaches its 10-year anniversary on November 11, there are still a few secrets out there and ready to be uncovered. Happy hunting our little Spider-Men and Spider-Women.
