Dragonsreach is one of the very first locations the dragonborn can venture to in the main quest of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It's where you first warn Jarl Balgruuf the Greater of the dragon attack at Helgen and where you summon, then trap, Odahviing.

Now, one Skyrim player on the virtual-reality version of the game took a break from all that and decided to turn Whiterun's keep into their own personal bowling alley.

How Did The Skyrim Player Create Their Own Bowling Alley?

In a post on Reddit, Skyrim player SpaceCadet_Kevin shared how they created the setup by using one of the dining tables inside Dragonsreach as 'the alley' and wine bottles as 'pins'. What did they use for a bowling ball? A Centurion Dynamo Core, which is an item normally found in Dwemer ruins to power Dwarven automatons like Centurion Spiders and Spheres.

In order to set up the bowling alley layout, Kevin used the Hand Interaction and Gravity Gloves mod which allows the player's hands to pick up items when in VR mode. The game was originally designed to improve combat for gamers playing in the virtual reality version of the game.

The mod also gives players the chance to interact with items using their hands which the vanilla game doesn't allow. This is what allowed Kevin to position the bottles on the dining table as well as throw the Centurion Dynamo Core.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Kevin said that the idea for the game originated with an impromptu game of baseball: "I'd basically find anything that worked as a ball... and try and shoot it into a cauldron. After that I started wondering what other games I could play and bowling was one of the first that popped into my head."

Can't I Just Shout At The Pins In Skyrim?

Unfortunately, Kevin admitted that they did attempt to use a shout to knock over the pins. Only, this immediately caused the guards to start chasing the Dragonborn in their classic chaotic fashion.

There can be a lot of intense and, occasionally, heartbreaking moments in Skyrim. Whether everyone's going on at you to kill a dragon or you accidentally kill your favourite follower who is carrying all your best items, it can all get pretty intense.

If you want to explore the lighter side of Skyrim, you could decide to challenge your favourite Jarl to a friendly night of bowling, request some tunes from a lute-playing bear, or make yourself a super-replenishing bowl of fondue.
