In a game that boasts Elder Dragons, Dwarven Centurians, Vampire Lords, Werewolves, Dragon Priests, Giant Frostbite Spiders, and Armoured Trolls, it's the Chickens and Dogs that players really care for.

The Skyrim Chicken is the most sacred of creatures that shall never be maimed, and the good boys of Tamriel are just as precious. However, ten years into the game and the pooches can't be rewarded for their presence, even if they're enrolled as your follower.

Until now.

The mod of all Skyrim mods has finally been made.

The modding community has made some bizarre enhancements to Skyrim over the decade long tenure of its reign, although some are often used as a necessity. Many visual and performance mods vastly improve life across Tamriel, making for a much better experience, and having the ability to propose to the flirty Vampire-princess Serena from the Dawnguard DLC is almost a must-have.

Now, thanks to Jayserpa, a new mod has finally been added which allows players to pet and stroke dogs in Skyrim. With three animations for when the canines are either sitting, standing, or lying down, Dragonborn can now show love and affection to the most wonderful dogs.

The mod works when no magic or weapons are equipped, by simply walking up to a dog the petting animation will kick into gear, and the wee doggies love it.

Taking to a blog post, JaySerpa commenting saying: "I couldn't believe it's the year 2021 of our Lord Talos and you still couldn't pet dogs in Skyrim. Well, I say NO MORE.

"Dragonborn, take off your iron gauntlets, for today is not the time to be dauntless. Forget about the greybeards and the voice, your duty is now only to rejoice. Yes, you heard it right: Tell Alduin, to put the apocalypse on hold, for I am proud to announce: 'Yes, you can pet the dog'."

Skyrim (including the HearthfireDragonborn, and Dawnguard DLCs) has a total of eleven dogs, most of which are Irish Wolfhounds. Those that came in the DLCs are varied, including two huskies by the name of Bran and Sceolang, and two death hounds named Garmr and CuSith. All eleven dogs can be petted with the mod, although the death hounds require you to become a Vampire Lord following the completion of the Dawnguard DLC.

The mod now has over 4,000 downloads and 24,000 views.

There are many good boys about to be petted.
