All good things are worth waiting for. Blizzard Entertainment has announced the delay of World of Warcraft’s expansion Shadowlands that was set to release on October 27. A new release date has not yet been announced but will likely launch still in 2020.

The community overwhelmingly welcomed the delay as the feedback to the Shadowlands beta had been that the game needed some more development hours to solve some of its issues. On social media, many public figures welcomed the decision.

One of Blizzard Entertainment’s core design philosophies since its early days had been to “commit to quality”. In a press release, the developer stated that “we believe Shadowlands will be something special, and we’ve heard from many of you who feel the same. We need this extra time to ensure that Shadowlands lives up to its full potential.”

Some criticism has come from fans who pointed out that the release date of the expansion had just been announced in late August and that Blizzard Entertainment had created those expectations for themselves. With some planning around their vacation around the release of the expansion pack in order to fully enjoy the release, the announcement had come in too late according to those critics. Indeed, the release date had only been announced a month ago with the expansion planned to hit in only three weeks.

World of Warcraft is one of the biggest massive multiplayer online role-playing games that had initially been released in 2004. Since then seven expansion packs have been released, with Shadowlands being the eighth.

GGRecon will update you once a new release date for Shadowlands has been announced.
