Scump Claims 'Pub Stomping' Videos Are Impossible Due To SBMM
As one of Call of Duty's greatest players ever, Seth "Scump" Abner rose to fame through his early displays on YouTube during the Black Ops 2 era in 2012, before joining OpTic Gaming and transcending to stardom.
The young gunner, shortly after joining OpTic Gaming following a historically colossal performance against the Green Wall members like Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag, uploaded a series of videos labelled "Pub Stomping".
The infamous series saw Scump slay his way through public lobbies, often posting near 100 kills and dying less than a handful of times.
Whilst re-watching his most-viewed Pub Stomping video, named "Sweatbannin'", the now-veteran player admitted it was sad to see the video during the 'golden era' of Call of Duty, before claiming this type of video will never be possible again.
The reason why: skill-based matchmaking.
Scump Claims Pub-Stomping Will Never Happen Again
In his reaction video, Scump watched his younger self drop 88-0 with the PDW and DSR on a Raid Domination match, a video that now has just shy of 10million views on YouTube.
During the intro, Scump said, "A lot of people ask, why don’t you do these videos any more? The simple, short answer is skill-based matchmaking.
"It’s just not possible. You’re just not going 88-0 against players that are around or at the same level. It’s just not happening. People do get around it, they get around it, but I don’t do that.
"It’s the sad reality, because I know how much people loved all the pub stomps, but it’s just not really a thing now."
Skill-based Matchmaking has been the hot topic of conversation in Call of Duty for years, with many of the top calibre players hopeful that public matches will be omitted from the system that benefits new starters. Instead, a ranked playlist is yearned for, in a bid to provide a different mix between try-harding and relaxing on the game.
Previously, professionals like Scump have stayed clear of the public matches, having been forced to play against players of a similar ability and having to "sweat" like a pro CDL match to be successful.
As to whether Call of Duty: Vanguard will re-open those avenues is yet to be seen, although Scump recently dropped a 37-2 gameplay in the PlayStation beta.
