The CEO of Roblox has made a statement on the recent downtime of the servers, apologising to fans of the online creation game and elaborating on the cause.

What Did The Roblox CEO Say?

The downtime for Roblox started sometime on Thursday and persisted for over 72 hours into Monday morning on November 1. After coming back online, CEO David Baszucki made a post to the official Roblox blog, which can be read here

It stated, "A core system in our infrastructure became overwhelmed, prompted by a subtle bug in our backend service communications while under heavy load", said Baszucki.

"This was not due to any peak in external traffic or any particular experience. Rather the failure was caused by the growth in the number of servers in our datacenters. The result was that most services at Roblox were unable to effectively communicate and deploy."

He went on to clarify, "Upon successfully identifying this root cause, we were able to resolve the issue through performance tuning, re-configuration, and scaling back of some load."

What's The Next Step For Roblox?

Now the servers are back up and running, the Roblox Corporation has promised to write up a full investigation into the issue, claiming in the blog post, "We will publish a post-mortem with more details once we’ve completed our analysis, along with the actions we’ll be taking to avoid such issues in the future. In addition, we will implement a policy to make our creator community economically whole as a result of this outage. There are more details on this to come."

Roblox clarified that there hasn’t been any loss of player data and that the game should be working as normal - informing any players who still run into issues to contact support.

Roblox also recently blew up with the popularity of Squid Game, as many players recreated the iconic Korean series in-game, meaning things were going pretty well. This was a setback for Roblox, but as a giant of free-to-play, it should soon recover whatever money was lost from the downtime.
