Riot Is Heavily Teasing A New VALORANT Agent... Or Map?

For a couple of weeks now, VALORANT developer Riot Games has been dropping bread crumbs leading up to a reveal of presumably either a new map or a champion. Last night, the third Tweet hit our timelines, giving a whole new dimension to possible interpretations.

The initial tweet posted on September 24 asked “who is on the bench?”, showing a video of moving assets with short messages from several languages.

The alleged translations are as follows:

Kench on the bench

A look at 'ascent'

The river king

Discovered the place that belongs to him

Presumed to refer to the League of Legends character Tahm Kench, who also has the nickname “the river king”, a bench can be found on the map ascent that features the likeness of the champion in the frame. What specific information we are supposed to derive from this is yet unclear.

PUBG and VALORANT leaker PlayerIGN shared his angle on the message we are supposed to gather, translating the messages in the following way.

Interestingly, new asset in the form of a penguin had been added to VALORANT which PlayerIGN interpreted to be a continuation of the theme of ice and snow.

Finally, yesterday a Tweet was posted confirming that “something’s dropping”

The video highlights once again the theme of ice and snow, but also states another Russian word which translates to five. The only meaningful connection to make here is the number of maps that VALORANT currently has being four, with the new map then becoming the fifth of the bunch.

However, in the timeline outlined to the community in which manner we may expect VALORANT agent and map releases, a new map would hit two months too early with only an Agent coming up. Whether this means that it’s indeed only going to be a new Agent with us having to wait another eight weeks for a new map or if the timelines have moved up is currently unknown.
