Riot Games Is Overhauling VALORANT Ranked Play

Since the beginning of Act 2, VALORANTs ranked system was completely revamped, as Riot Games began to refine its game to encourage the grind toward the esports scene. However, the new system has split the player base down the middle, with many at the higher end of the spectrum left waiting an hour just to be placed in a game with hackers that have swept under the radar.

At the top of the tree, players have often been left queueing for insane periods of times, in which lower-ranked players could have squeezed in two games. With over an hour of waiting, players could go for a jog, cook a three-course meal, or fly from London to Amsterdam. Even when finally being placed within a lobby, seldom will players have a strong connection. Recently, players such as Tyler "Ninja" Blevins have branded VALORANT ranked as "unplayable".

This is set to change in the future, with Riot Games overhauling the ranked system again.

Heading into Act Three, VALORANT developers have confirmed changes which will significantly help those in the higher ranks and will also allow players in lower ranks to be able to progress.

One major change is that the possible rank variation in a match has been altered from six to three. This means that players in, for instance, Gold Three can now only be placed against players up to Platinum Three. Before, they used to be able to come up against Diamond Three players on the verge of becoming Immortal. This is to encourage fairer games of similar abilities.

Another major change is the ability to change the server. If you're queuing on a server with no other players, you can sacrifice a little connection to play with others in a different region, decreasing the waiting times for games.

Alongside these changes, the developers have also confirmed that a regional and world leaderboard will be implemented, showing who the best players in the game are in terms of MMR.

Act Three is set to launch next week, so you may want to hit that grind button and deck out your ranked triangle before it becomes an emblem.
