Respawn Speaks Out About ‘Abandoning’ Titanfall For Apex Legends
Respawn Entertainment are responsible for a lot of brilliant games. Innovating on the FPS genre by creating the mech-stomping wall-running multiplayer masterwork Titanfall and its long-neglected sequel, before moving onto Apex Legends, one of the leading battle royale titles in the world. They’ve got a wide player base and a lot of fans, but they’ve also garnered a lot of negative press.
Many fans feel they’ve willingly neglected Titanfall as a series for sake of Apex Legends, a game that is respectful to its players but is still Respawn’s most lucrative title. The argument has become so feverish that fans have even hacked the game to bring the #SaveTitanfall movement straight to developers, obstructing players in the process. The problem has become serious, and now Respawn has been forced to respond.
Respawn Responds to Claims of ‘Abandoning’ Titanfall
Seemingly prompted by the rush-patch Respawn had to make in the face of the #SaveTitanfall DDoS attack, Respawn’s community coordinator Jason Garza responded to a question about how some fans feel abandoned by the developer team’s shifted focus away from Titanfall.
“You’re not abandoned”, he starts. “It’s a game of whack-a-mole with us. I stopped discussing that stuff, because… I don’t wanna say we’re working on it, because… yeah, we are working on it. [...] Now it’s a different type of game with these people who DDoS and stuff like that.”
As a representative of the community, Garza is seemingly frustrated too, but by fans who are attacking the games that are currently running to bring attention back to the others.
Garza continues - “The Titanfall community is not forgotten or abandoned, or anything like that. We’re still working on it, it’s just we can’t telegraph our moves, and we only have like one or two people on it because everybody else is on Apex.”
It seems as though Titanfall isn’t totally dead yet, but Respawn naturally has to focus on Apex Legends as it’s easily the game that’s keeping them going the most.
Some fans aren’t entirely convinced that this means Titanfall will be dug out of the dirt, but at least it’s not something the team have forgotten about. There’s hope for Titanfall 3 yet.
