Resident Evil Board Game Has Already Made Nearly $1 Million
The Resident Evil brand grew beyond its beginnings as a video game franchise a long time ago, and continues to be a world-dominant zombie franchise. This is thanks to its own successful film series, another movie on the way, an upcoming TV show, and now another boardgame which has just smashed its Kickstarter goal to raise near to one million dollars.
What Is The Resident Evil Board Game?
It’s important to note that this isn’t Resident Evil’s first foray into board games, with tabletop publisher Steamforged Games releasing one based on the second game and the third game in recent years. Now they have unveiled a project based on the first game in the franchise, and the Kickstarter was a runaway success.
Launched on October 26, the Kickstarter has already surpassed its $137,697 goal and is currently on its way to hit one million, with 14 days still to go. According to the project page, it’s a cooperative survival horror based on the 2002 remake of the legendary original title. "Step into the boots of a S.T.A.R.S member and enter the sinister Spencer Mansion to uncover the horrifying truths within. Search for secrets and survivors in an open world crawling with enemies, as the danger level rises around you," the promotional material goes on to say.
The game is supposed to accommodate up to four players, who can choose to control either Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, or Barry Burton, who all feature their own detailed figurines. There are also a bevy of classic Resident Evil enemies, from regular zombies and crimson heads to the T-002 Tyrant.
When Will The Game Come Out?
According to the Kickstarter page, they estimate all the backers to get their copy of the boardgame roughly 10 to 13 months after the campaign finishes. This is quite a long wait, but the dedication that Steamforged are putting into this project will seemingly make the wait worth it.
Although it’s reached its goal already, you can still pledge now to help them reach their stretch goals and to secure yourself a copy now. For more money, you can also buy versions that will include future expansions and extras for a fully comprehensive Resident Evil board game experience.
For those who can’t wait until the boardgame is fully released, Steamforged still have the older Resident Evil boardgames available on their website. Why not also experience the original title that the upcoming boardgame is based on, which is sure to be on sale for cheap on plenty of storefronts due to the ongoing Halloween sales.
The franchise has been going strong these recent years thanks to the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 which were well received. This year's Resident Evil Village also debuted to strong reviews and is rumoured to receive DLC soon.
