If you thought Capcom was done with its Resident Evil surprises, another anniversary special has come shuffling from the grave. Remembering that 2021 marks 25 years since we first stepped inside the Spencer Mansion for the OG, we've already made the most of the party with Resident Evil Village being one of this year's biggest games.

Many were disappointed by this year's Capcom showcase at E3, with critics calling out a lack of Resi news. Following this, Resident Evil Re:Verse was delayed, and we've still had no official word on that mythical Resident Evil 4 remake. There's another bittersweet pill to swallow, as Capcom unveils the 25th-anniversary box sets - with some Ts&Cs.

What are the Resident Evil box sets?

Unveiled on the official Capcom site, there are three Resident Evil box sets that gather all nine of the main games with some added bonuses. Vol. 1 is titled "Fall of Umbrella" and includes Resident Evil Zero, the 2002 remake of the 1996 game, as well as the 2019 remake of Resident Evil, and 2020's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Vol. 2 collects the next saga and has the name "Threat of Bioterrorism". Here, we get the lauded Resident Evil 4, the underrated Resident Evil 5, and the maligned Resident Evil 6. Charting the latest era, Vol. 3 is "Episode of Ethan Winters" and couples Resident Evil 7 with Resident Evil Village.

You might be a bit disappointed that there are only two games in the final collection, but considering they're some of the best, we'll let Capcom off. What we won't let Capcom off for, is the fact the volumes are only available in Japan.

Will the Resident Evil box sets come to other regions?

All three box sets will release on November 25th and cost 5,900 Yen - which is about $54/£39. There's plenty of bang for your buck, and with each pack including these glorious games, they're well worth it. To make up for the final pack's missing game, there are some exclusive postcards.

This isn't the first time Japan has got the drop of the rest of the world. In 2011, there was the BioHazard 15th Anniversary Collection, which bundled the first five games with Code: Veronica X HD. Consideirng that never made it the West, it's a damning prognosis for those hoping to buy the latest releases.

As reported by Rely on Horror, games like Village have been heavily censored, so although you can probably import the 25th Anniversary collections, it wouldn't be like the games we're used to playing. Over the years, we've enjoyed the likes of the Resident Evil 6: Anthology Edition, (containing digital codes for Resident Evil 1-5 with RE6 on disc), but we're often left missing out.

Can Capcom turn it around before the year is out? Well, maybe if we get an Ada Wong DLC for Village AND a RE4 remake. Come on guys, give us what we want.
