Just when you thought the unhinged Baker Family were about as weird as dysfunctional hosts could get in the world of Resident Evil, along comes Capcom with Resident Evil Village and the arrival of Lady Dimitrescu. Since the first reveal of Resident Evil 8, last year, fans have been dying to know more about this towering temptress, who has seemingly trapped returning protagonist Ethan Winters in her perfectly manicured talons.

Amongst one of the strangest reveals is the fact Resident Evil 8's "vampire lady" is a towering colossus that would given even Brienne of Tarth a run for her money in the height stakes. Gone are the days where Capcom's zombie shooter saw players face off against pretty standard foes like Albert Wesker or Ramon Salazar. In today's next-gen society, fans of the long-running series are demanding developers up the wacky. Thankfully, a giant vampire lady and her brood of hungry daughters fit the bill nicely in Village.

How tall is the Resident Evil 8 vampire lady?

Following the recent Resident Evil showcase and confirmation Lady Dimitrescu really does tower over us all, Kotaku's Ash Parrish decided to take it upon herself to work out how tall the giant vampire lady really is. Firstly, she downloaded the new playable demo that gives players their first glimpse of the game's main locale - a crumbling castle that the Dimitrescu family calls home. Here, Parrish tried to compare Alcina Dimitrescu's ornate chair to one online to try and decipher her height.

When this led to a blank, Parrish pulled off her own Resident Evil-inspired puzzle and figured out the castle dated back to the 15th Century. During one confrontation with the giant vampire lady, Parrish realised Alcina had to duck under the door leading from the courtyard. Fiding the average height of a 15th Century door in a French castle, the Kotaku journalist deduced that Lady Dimitrescu is 86 inches from foot to shoulder. Adding the average height of a head and sticking on an extra inch for good measure, and boom, the Resident Evil 8 vampire lady is 96 inches tall, aka a lofty 8ft.

What else do we know about the Resident Evil 8 vampire lady?

Given that the world's tallest woman is recorded as seven foot nine inches, you can only imagine how terrifying the giant Resident Evil 8 vampire lady really is. We've already been hunted by Lady Dimitrescu in the Maiden demo. Interestingly, the Kotaku piece sparked debate among the larger RE community, as well as the idea she's not just a fictional monster from the minds of Capcom's developers.

Having their interest piqued by the story, reader Kamigoroshi guessed she's based on a Japanese urban legend about a giant woman who abducts kids. In response to the article, they wrote, "I figured she’s 8 feet tall because the moment I saw her, I felt that she’s based on the Japanese urban legend Hachishakusama (literally "8 Feet Tall"), who is about a tall woman dressed in a white dress with a wide brimmed hat, who stalks and abducts children to kill". It definitely fits with the idea that there's more to the lore of Village's story. There are already players who think Alcina's daughters are the s version of Dracula's vampiric brides.

The official Resident Evil Village site doesn't give us many clues on what Dimitrescu is up to, but gives describes her as "the mistress of the castle that overlooks the village". She's also said to be a"towering woman". Interestingly, there are those who think we should stop calling her the Resident Evil 8 vampire lady altogether. From the various trailers and the Maiden demo, eagle-eyed gamers have pointed out she behaves differently to her daughters and doesn't seem to have the same vampire bloodlust. For all we know, she could be a new creation that's had a growth spurt thanks to the Umbrella Corporation's genetic meddling. Either way, we can't wait to see Lady Dimitrescu spread her wings on May 7. We'll bring our stilettos.
