Update: Since the publication of this article, Karmine Corp has confirmed that they have signed Rekkles.

Once one of the brightest players in the west, Martin "Rekkles" Larsson could be set to be sitting out of the 2022 LEC Spring Split, as a move away from G2 Esports nears completion with Karmine Corp rumoured to be his likely destination.

What Is Happening With Rekkles And The LEC?

Having moved away from Fnatic in 2020 after over five years at the organisation, Rekkles' transfer to their main rivals G2 Esports was supposed to catapult the Swede to the upper echelon of League of Legends esports. However, the harsh reality was that the Bot laner had a less than favourable time at G2, topped off by the org failing to reach the World Championships stage for the first time in over half a decade - just two years after they reached the final.

As part of a well-needed cleanout at G2 Esports, Rekkles is set to join the already-departed Head Coach Fabian "GrabbZ" Lohmann, with long-standing player Martin "Wunder" Nordahl Hansen and Support player Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle also expected to make way for new faces.

Previous reports suggested that MAD Lions' Victor "Flakked" Lirola is lined up to be G2 Esports' Bot laner in 2022, with Karmine Corps' Raphaël "Targamas" Crabbé coming in as their support, leaving both Rekkles and Mikyx without a squad.

What Do Reports Say About Rekkles?

Now, it appears that Rekkles could be going in the opposite direction to Targamas, as reports suggest that the star is set to drop out of the LEC with a move to the French Karmine Corp.

According to Esportsmanicos Reporter Yuste Amero, the back-to-back EU Masters side are front-runners to sign Rekkles - although the report was disputed by Dot Esports' Pablo Suárez.

Amero reported that Karmine Corps' negotiations with their other ADC target Jakob "Jackspektra" Kepple had collapsed, which was soon backed by an "LFT" tweet.

A large majority of the LEC sides are also clearing out their rosters, making it surprising that Rekkles isn't heading to another top-tier organisation.

However, every team in the region is strengthening after their worst performance at Worlds in six years, and Rekkles appears to be one piece of furniture that won't be in the new-look European front room.
