PS5 Production Has ‘Stopped’ Again Due To More Shortages
It's sad news for PlayStation fans as it's reported that production on PS5 consoles has, once again, been forced to come to a grinding halt.
The strife that players have had to go through to get their hands on a PS5 has become well-renowned across the globe. Fans flock online as soon as there's any announcement that there are any consoles back in stock. Some might get lucky, but many more are left disappointed. It's safe to say that getting your hands on a PS5 is like finding a golden ticket at the moment.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like things are going to get any easier as it is being reported that production on PS5 consoles has stopped, for the time being.
Why Has Production Stopped On PS5 Consoles?
According to a report by Bloomberg, the Japanese technology giant Sony has hit a whole load of bad luck in the production of its PS5 consoles. Claiming that the information has been shared by people who are "familiar with its operations", the article went on to claim that the reason for the shortage is that Sony is having trouble getting hold of the parts to make the consoles, as well as logistic problems. Apparently, the Coronavirus pandemic has also had a part to play as "uneven vaccine rollouts in nations where Sony builds chips" has affected production.
However, Sony isn't the only one to suffering from the effects of the global manufacturing problems. For example, in an email, Valve announced that the release of its Steam Deck console was being delayed from December 2021 to February 2022. As well as this, Sony's big rival, Nintendo, has reportedly been impacted by material shortages.
Will PS5 Production Start Again Soon?
There has been no word from Sony, as of yet, about the shortages or when PS5 production will be in full swing again. There's also no word as to whether it will be able to meet demand in the lead up to Christmas. However, the report states: "[Sony] had previously targeted more than 16 million units assembled in the year ending March, setting it up to achieve its sales goal for the period and also get a head start on the subsequent year’s production. The company has now cut that number down to about 15 million, making its aim of 14.8 million PS5 sales by March difficult."
The PS5 became the fastest Sony console to hit 10 million sales in July, 2021. Since then, fans have been getting hyped about the plethora of upcoming games that are lined up to be coming to the PS5, including God Of War: Ragnarok. However, Bloomberg claims that the lack of consoles on the market has caused many players to buy PC versions of the games that are currently available for the PS5.
If the reports do turn out to be true, let's just have everything crossed that Sony will be back on track soon. If the shortages continue, maybe it will have a rethink about trying to retire the PS3 console.
