Games You Can Already Pre-Order For Your PS5
While it's been a good run for the PlayStation 4, it's finally time to admit the current-gen console is entering the end of its life cycle. With the PS4 delivering giants like The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima in 2020, at least it's bowing out in style.
It's also important to remember upcoming titles including Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Cyberpunk 2077 will bridge the gap between the PS4 and PlayStation 5 as they run on both consoles. Sony has unveiled an impressive roadmap of titles that will be coming in 2020 and beyond, with a jam-packed schedule already heading to 2022 with Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The PS5 is set to officially hit the shelves on November 12, and while most of us have already got our console pre-orders in, you might need a reminder of what games are on offer. With this in mind, here are 10 of the biggest and best PS5 games you can pre-order now.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla (November 12)
Swapping the mythical realms of Ancient Greece for axe-wielding Vikings, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is taking Ubisoft's beloved adventure series to a whole new world. Even though it's set in a completely different era to 2018's Assassin's Creed Odyssey, expect there to be a lot of similarities. Taking the action to 873 AD, players find themselves immersed in the Viking invasion of Britain.
Tooling up as a Viking raider called Eivor, fans have the choice to play the story as either a man or a woman. Eagle Vision returns as "Odin Sight" and you'll be accompanied by a raven named Sýnin. There are sure to be a lot of comparisons between Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Santa Monica's God of War: Ragnarok, so take your pick on which you want to play - or both of them.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (November 13)
Continuing things with a firm-favourite franchise, Treyarch is back in the saddle for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. We're going behind the Iron Curtain with the long-awaited sequel to 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops. As well as an ambitious Story Mode and massive Multiplayer set to cash in on the growing esports scene, who could ignore the return of Zombies?
In the main campaign, Frank Woods is back on the hunt for a dastardly double agent known as Perseus. He'll work under CIA Agent Russell Adler as they try and find the enemy within their ranks who's been leaking American intel for decades. There's no escaping the fact that 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare gave the series a much-needed boost. With Cold War being dubbed the biggest entry to date, there's a lot riding on it.
Cyberpunk 2077 (November 19)
CD Projekt is trying something very different to its tried and tested Witcher series and has promised to deliver one of the most ambitious action RPGs ever known. Going full Blade Runner, you're tossed into the neon-clad Night City and its distinct regions. You'll play as an unnamed mercenary who is completely customisable.
The game is a modern reboot of the Cyberpunk tabletop role-playing series and is set to kick-start a whole franchise of media in terms of games, shows, and comics. It's clear that Night City is even bigger than we first thought. There's no official PS5 release date yet, but with the game coming to PS4 on November 19, we're guessing it will land the same day on next-gen.
Demon's Souls (November 12)
Way back in 2009, Demon's Souls was all anyone was talking about. Unknown to FromSoftware, but the game was about to start an acclaimed legacy and spin out into the Souls franchise. All these years later, Bluepoint Games is dishing up a next-gen remaster for the ages.
The cursed land of Boletaria has had a fresh lick of paint as Bluepoint has reportedly rebuilt the game from the ground up. Much like the original, the “Slayer of Demons" has to banish The Old One and hopefully return order to the land. Given that we know how the story continues, safe to say this probably won't have a happy ending.
Far Cry 6 (February 18, 2021)
Another long-running franchise that is moving with times with Far Cry. 2021 is already tipped to be huge for the industry, with Far Cry 6 looking like one of its biggest titles. You'll find yourselves struggling to survive on the fictional island of Yara, which is ruled over by the sadistic "El Presidente" - played by Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito. Players take control of a guerrilla fighter known as Dani Rojas.
Yara is described as a paradise frozen in time, while players will make the most of makeshift weapons and a variety of vehicles to try and restore order to this once peaceful land and stop El Presidente's army of goons.
Godfall (November 12)
Heading to the PS5 as a "looter slasher", Godfall was one the first big announcements for Sony's next-gen console and has already earned itself a huge following. Counterplay Games' ambitious project has split Godfall into the realms of Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Spirit. Players suit up as one of the land's last knights and must climb through the ranks.
There's obviously a heavy emphasis on looting, with plenty to keep you busy. Godfall also runs with up to three players in a "drop-in dropout" co-op mode. Counterplay is known for its work on the likes of Destiny 2, so there will be some similar mechanics. Prepare to grind your way through the levels and unlock tier upon tier of armour and weaponry.
Hogwarts Legacy (TBC 2021)
We're back on our broomsticks and flying off to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with Hogwarts Legacy. Set in 1800s Hogwarts, and long before Harry was taking the Hogwarts Express, players get to choose their House and attend classes as their very own witch or wizard. News of an open-world Harry Potter game has been doing the rounds for a while, however, Hogwarts Legacy is even bigger than anyone could've known.
Aside from the iconic locale of Hogwarts, you'll be able to explore the Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade, and plenty of other familiar places. For those who remember pixelated Hagrid of from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Hogwarts Legacy is going to be a very different experience.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Deluxe Edition (TBC Spring 2021)
Something has always "clicked" with LEGO and that galaxy far, far away, making LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga a big deal for fans. With some 43 years of Star Wars movies under Lucasfilm's belt, adapting all nine of the "Skywalker" entries into one game is no small feat. Added to this, each of the chapters will have five levels, meaning there's a tonne of content on the way.
Over 500 characters will be blasting off to the cosmos, and with most of them being playable, you'll be joining the fun as more than just Leia, Luke, and Han. Yes, that probably means Jar Jar Binks. All the usual comedy of the LEGO Star Wars series will be here, but unlike previous games, you won't have to play them in order to unlock what's next. If you fancy, you can jump straight from The Phantom Menace to The Rise of Skywalker.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Swinging into action in 2020, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the spin-off to Marvel's Spider-Man from 2018. Some thought this was the highly anticipated sequel to Peter Parker's adventure, however, Insomniac Games eventually confirmed it's a standalone outing that will put Miles in the spotlight.
Tipped to be much more than just a DLC, the story takes place a year after the conclusion of Spider-Man's The City That Never Sleeps DLC and follows Miles over the Christmas period. As well as dealing with his mother's campaign for City Council, Miles must traverse a deadly gang war between the shady Roxxon Energy Corporation and a tech-army run by The Tinkerer. Given the runaway success of Spider-Man, there's a lot of hype for Miles Morales.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Sony is resurrecting another fan-favourite franchise and unravelling the adorable world of Sackboy once again. The latest instalment in the LittleBigPlanet franchise gives Sackboy another outing, but this time, you're encouraged to work with three others for this four-player co-op adventure.
A mythical being called Vex has kidnapped Sackboy's friends and tasked them with building his Topsy Turver. If successful, the usually candy-coated land of Craftworld will be turned in a nightmarish hellscape. Although this one is largely aimed at a younger audience, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is sure to be fun for the whole family.
Now you know what to play, you'll just have to wait a little bit longer until you'll be able to get to grips with the PS5 and enjoy all that button-mashing fun for yourselves. Here's hoping the console continues the impressive legacy Sony carved with the PS5. So far, all signs are pointing in the right direction.
