PS Plus October Games Leaked Early
PlayStation fans rejoice - the PlayStation Plus games for October have apparently been revealed early. For those that have signed up to the subscription service, it has a rotating roster of games that appeal to both PS4 and PS5 players.
As with any month, there's the usual lineup of a AAA game, an old favourite, and a relative newcomer. This year, we've seen the likes of Star Wars: Squadrons, Battlefield V, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider make the cut, but what's up for grabs in October?
What's in the PS Plus October lineup?
Trusted leaker Billbill-Kun has the inside track. Remembering they were on the money with this month's crop of Overcooked 2: All You Can Eat, Hitman 2, and Predator: Hunting Grounds, we're expecting this one to be right.
Moderators on French forum Dealabs have also authorised Billbill-Kun's post - suggesting it's the real deal. So, you'd better looked surprised when Sony announces Hell Let Loose for PS5, alongside Mortal Kombat X, and PGA Tour 2K21 for PS4.
Looking closer at what's on the way, Hell Let Loose launches on PS5 on October 5 and is the result of a Kickstarter campaign and early access PC launch back in 2019. Here, you take part in iconic battles from World War II in teams of 50 vs. 50. The first-person shooter is a multiplayer melee where you typically play as either the German or American side. Since launch, Soviet teams have also been added.
PGA Tour 2K21 is the latest in the latest instalment in The Golf Club franchise, integrated with 2K Sports. The second game in the franchise to include a PGA Tour licence was released last August. Finally, Mortal Kombat X needs no introduction. The 2015 fighter is held as one of the best in the series, and picks up events 25 years after 2011's Mortal Kombat. The game received critical acclaim, and famously added pop culture favourites like Alien's Xenomorph and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface.
Is October's PS Plus worth it?
For many, it's Mortal Kombat X that's the big pull here. It might seem like it's well worth your subscription, but critics have pointed out that NetherRealm's brutal brawler was already available as part of the all-star PS Plus Collection that game with the PS5.
On the whole, there have been calls for Sony to revamp the way PS Plus works. It's a confusing situation that we have PS Plus and the cloud-based PS Now to contend with. Elsewhere, Microsoft continues to coin it with Game Pass, and recently added a tonne of Bethesda games since it acquired ZeniMax media.
Added to this, Sony came under fire for recent rumours that PS Plus could be getting a price hike. With over one million players cancelling their subscription last quarter, it looks like PS Plus is losing the battle to Game Pass. Giving away a game that many already have - no matter how good it is - is hardly going to prove the naysayers wrong.
