Can you hear the revving of a chainsaw? It must be Jack Baker in the decomposing bowels of the Baker Ranch in Resident Evil 7. While Capcom had already been churning out entries for 21 years by the time we got to RE7 in 2017, the heart-pounding title but the horror back in survival horror.

These days, Resident Evil 7 is held as something of an icon - giving us a much-needed return to form after the cinematic RE6. As well as going back to the roots of the franchise, it also put the pieces in place for 2021's Resident Evil Village, and started the Winters Trilogy.

So, wouldn't it be great if you could get it for free?

How can you get Resident Evil 7 For Free?

For those who were lucky enough to get their hands on a PlayStation 5, Resident Evil 7 was included in the PlayStation Plus collection. As well as acclaimed titles like The Last of Us and God of WarRE7 was a big selling point of this PS5-exclusive add-on. Nabbing a PS5 has been like catching a unicorn, so it's fair to say, PS4 owners were less than impressed by the deal.

You can still play Resident Evil 7 on the PlayStation 4, however, one handy hacker has found a way to turn its free demo into the full-blown game. On ResetEra, a Brazilian gamer called nolifebr explained how you could download the RE7 demo on PS4 and then proceed to "Buy Game" through the demo page. When the PS Store opened, nolifebr said select "Game Page", "Choose Version", then scroll to the second version.

The crafty workaround was confirmed to work, leaving a blood-soaked RE7 with a tasty 100% discount at checkout. The glitch covered areas like the USA, Romania, and the Netherlands, and as the hack started to do the rounds, we were dashing to the Baker Ranch like never before.

More than just a one-off for Resident Evil 7, the glitch apparently gifted every game in the PS Plus Collection. Titles including Fantasy XV Royal Edition, Battlefield 1, and Monster Hunter: World were all caught in the scandal, which quickly led to Sony taking action.

It's not that the PlayStation giant doesn't love giving us a gift every now and then, but giving away a whole collection of PS5 games for PS4 users wasn't on its roadmap for this year. As a result, parts of the PlayStation Store went kaput.

If you try and replicate the demo glitch now, you're greeted by an error message. At the time of writing, you can't access the demo pages for games in the PS Plus Collection. Sony hasn't responded to the bug, but we're pretty sure the team got wise.

It's also unclear whether those who downloaded the likes of Resident Evil 7 for free will continue being able to play, however, we imagine Sony is angrier than Lady Dimitrescu when you've offed one of her daughters.
