Phasmophobia - How To Use The Crucifix
It happened again. Your friends talked you into playing another one of their dumb scary horror games. “It’s Halloween! Come on, play with us!” So what? You need MORE scary, spooky experiences in 2020?! You could be playing something wholesome and relaxing right now. Sheesh, group pressure is really something else.
Alright, so how does this thing work then? Well, Phasmophobia is essentially a detective game against the paranormal. You stalk a ghost and write little notes about their everyday behaviour into your little journal like a normal person. Eventually, you’ll be screaming at the top of your lungs when it gets annoyed enough at you for being all up in his stuff, and it will hunt you with the intention to kill the hell out of you… or inside you? Whatever.
There’s some recourse to this though. On top of several investigative tools to help you identify the ghost the team can find or purchase, there are also items that can help you stay safe, one of them being the Crucifix. To prevent a hunt with a Crucifix can be an objective, so you should familiarise yourself with the item. That should be straight forward, right? Well, not exactly.
How to Use The Crucifix In Phasmophobia
While you might have thought that the Crucifix may help you ward off the ghost or even kill it, that’s now how it works in Phasmophobia. The essential use for a Crucifix is to prevent certain ghosts from entering hunting mode. Think of it as a pacifier for the paranormal.
For most ghosts it has power over, the Crucifix only has a radius of three metres and thus won’t cover a full room. Only the Banshee is warded off for a five-metre radius and can then be expected to roughly cover an entire room. That means that in most cases, a Crucifix needs to be strategically placed in order to be useful.
Think of the paths your allies are expected to mostly frequent and place Crucifixes there. An important fact that might not be intuitive is that once the ghost is enraged and entered hunting mode, the Crucifix will have no effect. If it is already in hunting mode, all you can do is hide. Each Crucifix can prevent a total of two hunts, which is another crucial factor to keep in mind.
In order to intentionally trigger the use of a Crucifix - yeah, I know. Who really wants to do that?! - you should let your team’s sanity drop below about 50% with Crucifixes placed in key positions and call its name. Once it hits the effective range described above, the objective will complete.
We hope that this guide helped you make sense of the slightly unintuitive nature of how to use the Crucifix in Phasmophobia and that you will find the strength to tell your friends to leave you alone with the scary stuff.
