It's the dawn of a new era with the release of Apple's iOS 14 and the latest addition to the family. You can now customise your home screen with a whole host of unique widgets, design ideas, and even color schemes, which has obviously led to a boom in letting our creative juices flow.

Gone are the generic days of having a bland background or pictures of your loved ones (sorry Grandma, you're out). Now, you can have a fully customised iPhone that will let your geek flag fly.

While Android has allowed its users to customise screens for ages, Apple has been a little slower on the uptake. There was something about the uniformed grid sequence that fitted with Apple's simplicity, but now, you can do whatever you want with your home screen. This has already lead to some imaginative gaming homages including everything from Minecraft to League of Legends, Among Us to Zelda. They're all here.

A simple search on Twitter of "#ios14” or “#ios14homescreen” will unveil a smorgasbord of options for you to pimp your iPhone or iPad. Our personal favourite was the one that looks like the old PlayStation memory card screen. While we've been able to create custom app icons since 2018's iOS 12 through the Shortcuts app, this has now be combined with iOS 14's widgets to open up a whole new fanbase.

Be warned, this is a time-consuming method that can take some serious work. As well as being handy with Photoshop and creating transparents, you'll need to download an app called Widgetsmith. Some developers have already started uploading custom packs that can be found through some internet searching, and believe us, this is the easiest route to go down.

The uptick in searching for customisable screens even led to Pinterest having its biggest day ever for downloads, which saw it sore to the top of the Apple App Store charts. It's estimated that there were 680,000 new downloads on September 21, proving Pinterest is the place to go for your custom home screens.

Elsewhere, a video titled  “How to make your iOS 14 home screen aesthetic AF” got an eye-watering 24 million views on TikTok. This is the latest trend that isn't going anywhere for now. The question is, do you have the time and the patience to try it yourself?
