Overwatch Fans Spot Fun Connection To The Suicide Squad
Overwatch is packed with easter eggs. The game is rife with voice lines, sprays and skins that make reference to the likes of The Dark Knight, Naruto and even commonplace memes. It’s part of what makes the hero shooter so fun and silly, and fans everywhere still love these little references when they’re peppered in.
Now, some fans have noticed something a little more significant, and much more unintentional. The box office is currently enjoying the violent delights of The Suicide Squad, but did you know there's a connection between Overwatch and the new James Gunn film?
What is Overwatch's connection to The Suicide Squad?
Hot off the heels of the latest addition to the DCEU - and the newest work by director James Gunn - being released in The Suicide Squad, some fans have pointed out that a voice actor connects both the film and Overwatch.
It turns out that Dee Bradley Baker, the voice actor Wrecking Ball (everyone’s favourite hamster), offered his rodent-y voice talents to The Suicide Squad too. In the movie, Baker played Ratcatcher 2’s best pal, Sebastian the Rat.
The connection was first pointed out by Reddit user founderofshoneys, and fans are impressed by the fact that Wrecking Ball isn’t the extent of Baker’s small creature-based voice acting talents. In fact, Baker has been keeping very busy voicing animals.
Dee Bradley Baker’s Many Rodent-y Voice Talents
It makes perfect sense that Baker was picked up for the role of Hammond in Overwatch, as his animal roles have stretched to some very recognisable beasties. He took the role of Perry the Platypus in Phineas and Ferb, and also voiced Appa and Momo in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Baker is also known for voicing other humanoid characters, playing Variks in Destiny 2: Beyond Light and Ra’s Al Ghul in Batman: Arkham City. He’s been busy in video games and DC properties too, so it’s nice to see him return to familiar ground in The Suicide Squad.
It’s a fascinating connection, and a surprising one at that. Now that Baker has got ins at DC, fingers crossed he can convince the higher-ups to get Peacemaker added to the hero roster in Overwatch.
