Overwatch Players Find Huge Fault In Cross-Play Beta
As Activision Blizzard throw all of their manpower towards Overwatch 2, the current predecessor is now being used as a guinea pig for new additions that will be rolled out upon the sequel's launch.
The devs rolled out a huge update for the game which finally saw Cross-Play enabled, albeit in a Beta run, seemingly as a trial for Overwatch 2.
However, players have found some glaringly obvious problems with the Overwatch Cross-Play beta, affecting both higher-skilled players and all solo-queuers.
Overwatch Cross-Play Randomises Regions For Better Players
With the beta having a limited number of players, it appears that many of the higher-skilled players are being pushed into different servers to fill lobbies.
Reports from several of the title's top players begun reporting that they were being placed into different regions, which normally results in a lot of lag, and a difficult player experience.
Former Overwatch professional, Scott "Custa" Kennedy, found that he had been pushed into Korean Servers thanks to the Cross-Play Beta.
Florida Mayhem content creator Christopher "Jay3" Pavloff also found himself being thrown to the EU pack, despite being in America and queueing on NA servers.
Blizzard Devs Respond To Overwatch Cross-Play Problems
With many reports of these problems surfacing, Blizzard Tech Support took to their forums to update players on the situation.
Tech support agent "MVP" explained that, "anyone of any region can be put into a server more distant than their closest one in order to accommodate matchmaking during low-peak times or at extreme ranks like low-Bronze or Grand Master."
As an example, MVP said, "In Europe, the Bahrain datacenter (a.k.a. Middle East) is relatively low-populated, so it often pulls players who normally connect to Versailles or Amsterdam in order to fulfil a match."
Whilst the problems of being pulled into different, and potentially laggy, servers have been the main problem, the core components of Cross-Play seem to fully intact, finally allowing PC and console players to play together.
With the Beta being a test for Overwatch 2, their much denser servers will undoubtedly ridicule this problem, although for the time being, you may want to stick to playing at peak times.
