Overwatch Player Has Collected 1000 Loot Boxes Without Spending Any Money
When it comes to Loot Boxes in games, chances are you either love them or loathe them. Either way, they continue to be a point of contention as a publisher's easiest way to make its money back. Blizzard Entertainment has come under fire for its own aggressive use of Loot Boxes in Overwatch, but now, one player has revealed how they've gathered 1000 over the years.
As Overwatch often claims the crown for being the "first" hero shooter, the colourful game is still going strong some five years after it first launched. While many of us are looking ahead to the eventual release of Overwatch 2 (we're hoping a surprise drop in 2021), there's still a loyal fanbase who regularly drop by for a match in the OG. Only recently, Blizzard reported that the game still has an active playerbase of 10 million users a month. That's a lot of Loot Boxes and a lot of dollar!
How to get 1000 free Overwatch Loot Boxes
1000 Loot Boxes! 5 years ago I set a goal to reach 1000 loot boxes but as time and life went on I was able to play less and less. Until last night! I finally reached my goal. Here are some of the old seasons I played through. from r/Overwatch
Despite criticisms about Loot Boxes, Overwatch rewards you with a free one every time you level up. Posting on Reddit u/JugglingJew07 explained how they've collected every Loot Box they've earned through levelling and endorsements over the years. The impressive collection means they've now reached the milestone of 1000 unopened Loot Boxes. Most of us blast open a Loot Box as soon as we're gifted them, so hat's off to JugglingJew07 for having the restraint to control themself.
The video flicks through years of gathering Loot Boxes and watching them stack up. With 2 Legendary Anniversary Loot Boxes, 42 Anniversary, 78 Archives, 77 Lunar New Year, 62 Winter Wonderland, 89 Halloween, 56 Summer Games, and 594 regular, it's quite the collection to behold.
What now though? There's also another twist to the tale - they have no plan to open them. When one redditor said, "Please tell us how long it took to open them all", the OP said, "Gotta reach 2000 now lol". Why they've collected 1000 Loot Boxes without opening them is beyond us, but either way, it's an impressive haul. Just imagine the treasure trove that's inside.
The issue of Loot Boxes will undoubtedly raise the argument about Blizzard making a small fortune from them and cosmetics but is notoriously sketchy with paying its pro players. Still, that's a row for another day. When it comes to the Loot Box collection, this one has taken some serious patience that most of us can't imagine. Then again, how many of us have an inbox full of unopened emails?
