Overkill Software Gives Update On Payday 3
It seems like aeons ago that Payday 2 was released, and yet, it’s maintained a persistent and dedicated fanbase. Its launch back in 2013 was met with love from a small group of gamers, but the co-op crime shooter has since built a cult following and become the benchmark for many titles going forward.
It’s argued that games like Rainbow Six Siege wouldn’t be the same without the influence of Payday 2, and the shooter's influence has left a stamp on the genre. After years of waiting, fans have been given a fresh look at its long-awaited sequel.
What New Payday 3 Details Have Been Revealed?
Some new details about the upcoming Payday 3 have been revealed by Starbreeze Studios and Overkill Software in a Payday 10th-anniversary livestream.
It has been revealed that the game will take place several years after the events of Payday 2, bringing characters like Dallas, Hoxton, Chains, and Wold back from retirement for more jobs.
We didn’t get to see any gameplay footage or even a cinematic, but two new pieces of concept art have been revealed. One shows off the character models of the protagonists and another showcases the aftermath of a job that sees police and SWAT vans parked outside of the fictional New York bank, Gold & Shark Incorporated.
When Is Payday 3 Coming Out?
The upcoming sequel has been brewing for a long time, but fans are still going to have to wait a little longer for it. Payday 3’s current release window is for some point in 2023, so we have at least another 14 months until we can get our hands on it.
Either way, we’d rather the teams take time to get it right. Still, it's tough holding out for a sequel to the 2013 game. Payday 3's launch on PC and consoles is certainly one to be excited for - especially if you’ve been waiting for eight years.
