With great power comes great opportunity. After an initial rollout of over twenty titles in February 2021, Microsoft has partnered with even more developers and have started bringing FPS Boosts to a total of 97 games, including names such as DiRT 4, Wasteland 3, and Watch Dogs. Games like Battlefield 1 through V are running up to 120hz on the Xbox Series X now, as do games like Mad Max, Metro 2033 Redux, and Titanfall 2.

For some games, the FPS boost means that the output has nearly doubled, giving that silky smooth feeling of high frame rates that PC gamers have long been swooning about. That said, some games require some sacrifices to hit those frame rates, having to be played at a lower resolution. Microsoft stated that in those cases in which improved frame rates aren't possible at the same resolution, the default will remain on higher graphics quality, though toggling the higher FPS feature on by decreasing the resolution is easy enough in the options menu of the respective game.

How To Turn On FPS Boost on Xbox Series S/X

For those games in which it isn't switched on by default due to the aforementioned hurdles, switching the FPS Boost feature on is easy enough.

  1. Load up the game you want to customise and enter the options menu
  2. In the home menu, select the game you want to change the settings for and choose options
  3. Scroll down to "Compatibility options" and select it
  4. Set the checkmark for FPS Boost to checked.
  5. Close the game completely and restart it.

Only after the restart, the setting will be set to active. Games in which you will have to switch it off manually in which it is on by default include Monster Energy Supercross 3, Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, SMITE, STAR WARS Battlefront II, the Evil Within 2, Titanfall 2, Unravel 2, Wasteland 3, Anthem, Assassin's Creed III Remastered, Battlefield 1, Battlefield V, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn, Gears of War 4, Homefront: The Revolution, and Hyperscape.

It is expected that more games will be added to the FPS Boost list in order to allow gamers to experience the rich Xbox catalogue on the new console in timely framerates. GGRecon will keep you up to date on those developments.
