Octane Believes Surge Capitalised On FaZe 'Trolling' In Stage V Shock Result
The CDL Stage V was so full to the brim with high-octane games and massive Rokkr-shaped comeback, it was hard to remember every detail of a weekend.
However, one aspect of the championship that has not been forgotten was Seattle Surge's colossal upset against Atlanta FaZe, which is being dubbed as the most shocking result in Call of Duty history.
Bottom-placed Seattle Surge had warranted a higher placing in the leaderboards if their Stage 4 Major performances were to go off, but ultimately, points hadn't fallen in their lap, and they were marooned to the bottom of the pack with no hope of qualifying for the World championships.
On the flip side, Atlanta FaZe looked untouchable on LAN. Having secured the top seed with their resounding Stage V championship.
So, when Surge eliminated FaZe from the Major in a stellar 3-2 nailbiting performance, the scenes were rather electric.
Now, Surge's star man Sam "Octane" Larew has taken to YouTube to highlight one reason why Atlanta's high-flyers were buried into the ground.
Octane Hits Out At 'Trolling' Atlanta FaZe
Following their win, Octane uploaded a video detailing how they managed to pull off the miracle victory.
Opening the account, Octane revealed that "FaZe trolled" in their map veto process, which saw Seattle be able to pick their two strongest Hardpoint maps - coincidentally their best game mode, ending the season with an 11-1 record when playing on LAN.
“Garrison Hardpoint has been our auto-veto because we’re dogs*** at it,” he began. "But we decided to leave it in because we wanted to ban one of their stronger maps. We were like f*** it, if they pick that, we still have a better chance than playing their best Hardpoint map.
"They didn't pick it, and I don't know why. The Hardpoints ended up being Moscow and Raid, which had been our bread and butter."
Both Hardpoint maps saw Seattle Surge come out victorious, leading to a game five Search and Destroy on Standoff.
Following a tight-knit game and some very questionable killstreak usage from FaZe, Surge was able to topple the table toppers, and send them for an early bath.
The result was one of the key talking points of the weekend, although it was eclipsed by the "Rokkr Resurrection" in the Grand Finals.
Unfortunately for Octane, despite only two losses on LAN, both to the hands of OpTic, the season is now over for Surge. Another poor online year left them with too big of a hill to climb, despite looking like a serious threat in the live arena.
