Nintendo has presumably had a bit of a busy festive season. As is to be expected, really.

The gaming company have remained the champion of family gaming ever since the NES hit the shelves, and with the advent of the Nintendo Switch bringing with it new adventures from Mario, Link and even Samus since its launch, it is truly no surprise that plenty of kids will have spent Christmas morning frantically unwrapping their new Nintendo Switch, whichever shape that takes. It's sweet, really.

But, of course, that leads to unprecedented problems for Nintendo servers - or at least they should be unprecedented. Because, yet again, Nintendo has suffered some big crashes that may have cost them a lot of money.

Nintendo's eShop Crashed On Christmas Day, Obviously

As is tradition at this point, the Nintendo eShop buckled under the weight of the thousands of newbies taking to the store, and crashed hard on Christmas Day this year.

The sheer sum of players trying to buy new games, browse the store and claim gift cards were met with an error message that leaves quite the sinking feeling. "We are currently experiencing difficulties with our network services", the vague message reads. "Please try again later. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause." Son's crying, nice one.

But, there's good news.

Nintendo's eShop Is Back Up And Running

Thankfully the Nintendo Eshop has recovered from its Turkey-flavoured hiccup, and it's now happily back up and running. Finally, we can redeem that gift card and top up our V-Bucks.

It's good news, too, as the yearly Holiday sale is in full swing on the Switch, and is offering some pretty good deals that'll help you drain your pockets of your Christmas money nice and quick.

Nintendo isn't exactly well-known for server stability, but at least little Timmy can finally claim his eShop code and download his copy of Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Crisis averted - but only for another year. See you back here in 2022 when the servers stack it all over again.
