Nintendo Is Planning Major Updates To Switch Online
The Nintendo Switch’s online features are… not good. It’s not a shocking revelation for those who have been using the Switch religiously since launch that Nintendo’s online services are shaky at best and broken at worst, as they’ve been putting up with it for years now. Players don’t expect much from Nintendo’s paid online services, only for games to be at least stable enough to see through, but sadly, many don’t even get that.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s online servers are unsteady most of the time, but that’s the best it gets, as games like Super Mario Maker 2 are left unplayable most of the time, with unbearable lag spikes instantly jeopardising games with no warning.
Fans want better from the service - and it looks like Nintendo might finally be listening, as they’re proposing new changes.
Nintendo Suggests Changes To Nintendo Switch Online
Thankfully, it looks like Nintendo are fully aware that their service isn’t quite reaching its potential and are intent on making it a little more robust. In the Q&A section of the latest Nintendo shareholder meeting, the representative director and president Shuntaro Furukawa responded to a question asked regarding the implementation of new features and services to Switch Online and the potential of staggering subscription prices.
“We are working on increasing the appeal of the service to make it even more fun and convenient to play with Nintendo Switch”, he says.
It’s not clear what exactly he means by this, but it looks like some changes could be on their way to the service, and the Nintendo team are actively working on a new change. This could simply mean a few added NES or SNES titles to the classics library or a full overhaul of the connectivity of the service, and we won’t know for sure until we get some kind of official announcement.
We’ve got our fingers crossed that some change will be coming to the service soon, as with every game rendered unplayable by poor internet connectivity, the less worth the price of admission of Switch Online becomes.
