You’d think Respawn Entertainment was busy enough with the arrival of Apex Legends season 10, but it seems it's still working hard to streamline the game’s experience. The introduction of Seer, the Rampage LMG, and a whole host of map changes have brought a lot of life back to the game - with many fans calling it the most fun season yet. However, the team isn’t stopping there.

Fans have been after a next-gen upgrade for the game for a while now, and have been crying out for cross-progression too. It seemed once like we’d have to wait until each season’s content was finished before we’d get any updates on these features, but as it turns out, it looks like the team has been working on them the whole time. They could be on the way - just maybe not as soon as we like.

Technical upgrades to Apex Legends are seemingly still on the way, but we might have to wait a little while until we get to give them a spin. During a Reddit AMA over the weekend, Respawn Director of Communications Ryan K. Rigney discussed the graphical update to the game, suggesting that it’s still coming, but it’s a difficult update to nail, so we might have to wait for it.

“Oh man, I WISH I had an update to share,” says Ryan, “but we can’t say anything definitive at the moment - so can’t spoil anything here. Trust us tho, it’s in the works and we’re excited about it too.” It’s a shame that the team are so swamped to get it all done, but at least we know that it’s still in the works.

However, this isn’t the only quality-of-life update in the works for Apex.

Cross Progression for Apex Legends Still In Development

Similarly to the progress of the game’s next-gen upgrade, Apex Legendscross-progression is still on the way, but is a way off yet. In response to another question in the same Reddit AMA, Rigney suggests that cross-progression is a feature that may have to wait until 2022.

“Cross progression is gnarly as hell in terms of being a problem to solve. It’s not only that you have to solve the technical challenge of merging existing accounts, but there are also legal and contractual issues to navigate with purchasing on other platforms. Different regions have different laws. It’s a mess. But we’re working on it, and we’re committed to delivering it.”

They’re reassuring words, and while we might have to wait a little while for it, it’s clear that the team are working hard on delivering both the next-gen version of Apex Legends and its cross-progression. It's better if they take their time. After all, we wouldn’t want it to come back broken.
