Lara Croft is sticking on a pair of shorts, loading up her dual pistols, and throwing herself into danger with the Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy. While the early days of Ms Croft are now remembered for angular breasts and giving some of the best action-adventure games we can remember, things trailed off with later entries and limped through to 2003's Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. After Square Enix took over publishing and Crystal Dynamics delivered the critically acclaimed Tomb Raider in 2013, things have been going from strength to strength.

Although there are reports of a new game already being in development, the Crystal Dynamics "Origin Trilogy" is coming to life once again with Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy. The Origin Trilogy rounded off with Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018 and delivered a suitably fitting conclusion to Lara's latest chapter. With the Tomb Raider name celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2021, it sounds like Square Enix is ready to honour the gaming icon by bringing three of her best games together for the first time.

What is the new Tomb Raider trilogy?

The Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy was revealed on the Microsoft Store and then quickly removed. Thankfully, someone on ResetEra snapped a shot of the listing and confirmed the trilogy for March 18. If the leaks are to be believed, it means we're just days away from leaping off cliffs as Lara all over again. According to the listing, you'll be able to play 2013's Tomb Raider, 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as well as all their respective DLCs.

Unfortunately, there's no price for the Definitive Survivor Trilogy. Considering it includes so much content, and that all the games are still available to buy separately, we're guessing it'll be a pretty penny. Then again, you have to look at how much bang for your buck you're actually getting. Only recently, Shadow of the Tomb Raider was part of January's PlayStation Plus package. For those who are seasoned Croftites or who've never played before, it reminded everyone why the concluding game was so great. Dubbed a gritty and darker reimagining of Lara's story, the latest trilogy has been universally praised as was even used as an influence for the Alicia Vikander-led live-action Tomb Raider movie.

What else do we know about the new Tomb Raider trilogy?

For anyone expecting a next-gen upgrade to show what the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S can really do with the Tomb Raider games, you might be a little disappointed. There's no mention of a remaster or any additional content beyond what's already been released. The listing simply reads, "Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy is the complete edition of the award-winning Tomb Raider origin games. This collection contains all the definitive edition content from each critically acclaimed prequel title—Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition".

It's a little disappointing that we aren't having a next-gen version of the games, especially since the remastered version of the first game was released as Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition all the way back in 2014. Then again, the fact that Shadow of the Tomb Raider only released a few years ago, it might've seemed like a waste of resources to try and rebuild. It's interesting to note the games are a well-timed release to lead into the upcoming Netflix anime series that will continue the story beyond Shadow. Even the listing refers to the games as prequels, meaning it's a clever tie to promote the series.

To be honest, we're surprised it's taken this long to bundle the three games together. The Microsoft Store has become a goldmine go-to for game leaks, so we'll have to keep an eye on what else appears on there and is quickly pulled. As the Tomb Raider 25th anniversary celebrations continue, here's hoping there's also some news on what comes next and how the next game will "unify" the timelines. In the meantime, we'll be sure to give ourselves a refreshed with Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy
