New Fortnite Season Rumoured To Change The Game Forever

It doesn't sound like Epic Games is sitting on its festive laurels for too long as the latest Fortnite leaks suggest the next season could change the battle royale bruiser forever. While we're used to seasons like Chapter 1 Season 10, aka "The End", mixing things up, the crappy year of 2020 might be redeeming itself with Fortnite.

We're only just rounding off the supersized Chapter 2 Season 4, which has brought the great and the good of Marvel Comics in all their glory. Many had tipped this season to deliver a shock twist that would reinvent Fortnite, but if the latest rumours are to be believed, we'll have to wait just a little bit longer.

Comments were reportedly made during a closed Zoom called between video game journalist Geoff Keigley and Epic Games Worldwide Creative Director, Donald Mustard. These were then relayed by notable Fortnite leaker Fire Monkey, who quoted a source. According to this anonymous mole, the next season is "The biggest they've ever done and it will change the future of Fortnite". It isn't much to go on, but it definitely piqued our interest.

The other big takeaway is the fact Troy Baker has recorded some lines. As well as previously providing his vocals for the role of John Jones in "The Device" event, Baker is something of a big deal in the voiceover business. Alongside voicing characters in the Call of Duty series, Baker is known as Samuel Drake in the Uncharted games and is arguably best-known for voicing Batman.

Given that we know there will be the DC-themed "Last Laugh" bundle later this month, it could be that Baker has simply reprised his role as the Caped Crusader, however, the fact it was mentioned teases this could be part of something more.

Ironically, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney was grilled last December on Fortnite as a platform. The big boss said, "Fortnite is a game. But please ask that question again in 12 months". Is it more than a coincidence that those 12 months are nearly up? Either way, we're told to look out for the Game Awards on December 10 when Mustard and co. are set to make a huge announcement.

There's been a lot of buzz recently about bringing back the OG map that was wiped out in Chapter 1 Season X, while the latest season has hinted at that possibility by spitting landmarks out of rifts. Whatever Epic is working on, we should look to the imminent  Chapter 2 Season 5 to be more than just a seasonal showstopper with gingerbread skins.
