Mobile gaming is making an incredible comeback at the moment. The mobile space was once dominated by the Angry Birds and Doodle Jumps of the world - which existed as time-fillers and something to keep you busy on the toilet. Now, the esports world has found a new way to capitalise on the super-computers in everyone’s pockets.

PUBG’s mobile version kicked things off, with Fortnite joining after, and even Apex Legends having a new mobile edition on the way. It’s clear that smartphones have the potential to get people into competitive gaming. Call of Duty isn’t an exception to this rule, with Call of Duty: Mobile smashing the Chinese market and bringing a cocktail of the franchise’s parts to players' pockets. As if that wasn’t enough, it looks like another Call of Duty title is coming to mobile too.

In the wake of Tencent’s success with Call of Duty: Mobile, Activision seems ready to capitalise on the franchise’s mobile chops. The company has created a new mobile game studio for Call of Duty, and is currently working on a new unannounced title in the series.

The existence of a new game in production was suggested by a job listing in June this year, but this is our first confirmation that a new game is going ahead.

Activision president Rob Kostich has commented on the creation of a new mobile title in the CoD franchise: "As we think about long-term, where we see more compelling growth on the platform, I’d say we believe there’s an opportunity to better connect mobile to the overall Call of Duty ecosystem and we’re aggressively hiring talent to help on this journey."

Activision’s New Game Is A ‘AAA Mobile FPS’

Fans have been reassured that this mobile game isn’t just something throwaway to capture your attention for five minutes - this is the real deal. Activision has said, “Our first project is a new AAA mobile title in the Call of Duty franchise and we’re looking for great talent from mobile, console and PC backgrounds passionate about their work, who share our belief in what AAA experiences on mobile can and should be.”

The new game will likely take some hints from Call of Duty: Mobile, given its incredible popularity. To be honest, it’s about time the series made its next move against the other esports titans waging war for dominion of the mobile space. Whatever shape this title takes, it’s an exciting suggestion that we could have a brand new Call of Duty title in our pockets - and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.
