Forget Mortal Kombat, there's a new hero (literally) in town, as fans think NetherRealm Studios is working on Injustice 3 for DC's fighting favourite. From the humble roots of 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us to the bigger and bolder Injustice 2 from 2018, it's clear Warner Bros. has only just scratched the surface of this brutal world of spandex and smackdowns. With Warner Bros. just announcing an animated movie set in this world, it's sparked speculation that Injustice 3 is just around the corner.

Taking influence from the aforementioned Mortal Kombat games, Injustice rallies fan-favourites DC characters and throws them into a complicated story of revenge and bloodlust. Letting you duke it out as any number of DC heroes and villains, there's something oddly satisfying about watching Gorilla Grodd rip Cyborg's arms off as Wonder Woman gets choked to death by Poison Ivy's vines. With MK legend Ed Boon serving as Injustice's Director, what else would you expect?

Will there be an Injustice 3?

Unsurprisingly, the idea of Injustice 3 took off among fandom and led to the series trending on Twitter - not bad for a game that doesn't even exist. Boon hasn't commented on the idea of Injustice 3, however, he doused the fire with petrol when he shared a screenshot of it trending. Given that Boon is the master of deception, confirming a game simply based on a tweet is taking more than a few liberties. Still, it's a nice idea for fans to mull over for now.

Others pointed out that Warner Bros.' various game studios are potentially going to be split up by an AT&T merger. The ink is still wet on the deal, and gamers are assured it won't change any plans in the near future. Elsewhere, the Injustice 3 news has Mortal Kombat players up in arms as they once again drag Boon under the bus for a lack of DLC content for Mortal Kombat 11. Finally, someone else suggested the frankly brilliant idea of a DC vs Marvel fighting game. To quote Philip J. Fry, "Shut up and take my money".

What do we want to see in Injustice 3?

Namely, players started throwing their ideas in the ring for which DC goliaths should suit up for the next game. Personally, I like to see a jacked version of the Penguin and more crossover with Mortal Kombat. Injustice 2 added MK legends like Sub-Zero and Raiden to the story via DLC, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. As well as plenty of room for Frost, Reptile, and Johnny Cage, we'd love to see Scorpion back in action.

It's important to remember that DC Comics has a lot more than just Batman and Superman. Hellboy popped up in Injustice 2, so who wouldn't want Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan obliterate the competition in Injustice 3? The potential of Mortal Kombat crossovers have been proven, with Scorpion being the most downloaded DLC fighter of the first game. While it's important to keep the two games in their own separate series, a little more MK collaboration wouldn't hurt. If there's any justice in the world, we'll be sitting down to mash buttons and faces with Injustice 3 by the end of the year.
