OpTic Blake Believes Multiplayer Modes 'Will Rise Again And Dethrone Battle Royales'
The age of battle royales has dawned on us. Since Fortnite rose to fame and ignited the dormant genre, the likes of Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends have continued to carry the flame.
But are battle royales dying? Is multiplayer back on the rise? Some high-profile gamers certainly think so.
Following the return of live events to the Call of Duty League, interest in the multiplayer side of CoD has begun to increase, especially with the recent resurgence of an OpTic Chicago side, whose followers have been amassing for years.
The Green Wall was able to watch their side in person, where they managed a third-place finish. As Minnesota ROKKR stunned the entire league by beating OpTic, FaZe, Empire, and Toronto Ultra twice to come home as worthy yet unexpected winners, the entire Call of Duty community was enthralled.
Multiplayer Call of Duty was back at its scintillating best.
Meanwhile, Warzone is dying to hackers, as even streamers like Nick "NICKMERCS" Kolcheff have opted for an Apex-shaped change of scenery.
With this in mind, OpTic Gaming content creator Blake "Blake" Cissel has claimed that "There’s a timeline where Call of Duty and Halo multiplayer return to dethrone Battle Royales."
Since the rise of Warzone, it could be argued that the BR eclipsed the multiplayer experience as viewers of the CDL and overall multiplayer users have suffered significantly.
However, with the season coming to a sumptuous conclusion, another annual game in the works, and competition from Halo Infinite and Battlefield 2024 coming soon, multiplayer FPS titles could be on the rise to dump Warzone into the Verdansk oceans.
Blake himself has been a strong advocate of the multiplayer world, having recently been slaying and trickshotting his way through the League Play ranks alongside Hitch "Hitchariide" Davis and Jorge "Jorge" Estrada.
The turning point may lie with the success of Call of Duty: Vanguard, whose multiplayer experience will surely determine whether the core CoD game modes can wrestle the fan base back from the battle royale, or whether Warzone really is the future.
