Atlanta Reign Star Masaa Mocks London Spitfire With 'It's Not Coming Home' Quick Chat
Over in London, the notion of "it's coming home" is filled with excitement, with connotations of jubilant shirtless Britons launching beverages in the air as pandemonium and 'limbs' erupt at every ripple of the net during the football European Championships 2020.
However, from the outside looking in, the slogan is filled with arrogance and misplaced pride, as the English football fans' reputation has let the country down on countless occasions.
As England reach their first major tournament final in football since their 1966 World Cup victory, the same success can't be said for their representation in the Overwatch League, as the London Spitfire's misery was extended by the hands of Atlanta Reign.
To rub salt into the wounds of the London Spitfire, Atlanta's Petja "Masaa" Kantanen left them a flex in the in-game chat.
Masaa: "It's not coming home"
Extending the Spitfire's loss record to 23 straight games, Atlanta Reign was able to cruise to a 3-0 victory in the Summer Showdown qualifiers.
With the game firmly in their hands during the King's Row Hybrid match, the Reign purposely delayed winning the match so that Masaa could take to the quick chat to say "It's not coming home", a message which has since rubbed some people up the wrong way.
Caster Brennon Hook was the first to notice, exclaiming: "I can’t believe what I am witnessing! This is outrageous disrespect.”
Strangely enough, there wasn't a single UK-born player between the two organisations on the field. Atlant Reign also boasts the same number of UK players as London, with their substitute Kai "Kai" Collins matching Spitfire's Dominic "Hybrid" Grove.
The flex was still seen as one of the OWL's spiciest quick chats yet, sending shudders down the spine of the whole organisation.
Fans React To Masaa's Spicy OWL BM
Most of the sorrows came from the direction of London fans, who would have still been a bit ropey from a night full of celebrations the evening prior.
However, many of the community also defended Masaa, inviting more personality into the league.
Masaa's actions have caught the eyes of the wider esports community, adding much more anticipation on both Atlanta's next game, and as to whether the Spitfire can vengefully end their losing streak. Maybe, the exposure could be good for a league in need of more eyes.
