Maps For Unannounced Overwatch 2 Game Mode Revealed

Back in February, previously departed Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan revealed that Overwatch 2 will see a whole new game mode introduced, tailored directly for competitive playlists. Coming in over Assault (also known as 2CP or Two Capture Point), the new game mode will be enlisted with brand-new maps to compliment it, and despite any further details being released, a Reddit AMA seems to have uncovered the truth.

Following a three-hour-long broadcast on May 20, Overwatch developers dropped some huge bombs, such as 5v5 gameplay, some major hero reworks, and a wealth of new content. However, with so many announcements, this left fans with many question marks circling their minds (*insert Zach Galifianakis gif*).

With the chance to clear things up, a range of developers jumped into a live AMA on Reddit, where Game Director Aaron Keller potentially leaked the first two maps that will feature in Overwatch 2's secret game mode.

Overwatch 2 Secret Mode Maps

With many locations being revealed to host maps on Overwatch 2, one fan posed the question as to which PvP types Gothenberg and India will be constructed for. Answering the question, Keller said "I don't think we've officially announced PvP maps for either of these locations.... however if we were to make maps for them I think it would be a great idea if they were built for some super exciting, as yet unannounced game mode."

However, Keller may have missed the memo, as both maps have been revealed.

After being corrected, as Gothenburg was shown briefly at Blizzcon 2019 and India was glimpsed ad BlizzConLine, Keller merely joked "Oh shoot! You might be right. Ummmmmm..." indicating that he may have let slip something that he shouldn't have.

Will any existing maps be reworked for the Overwatch 2 secret mode?

After letting slip that we may be set to see the new game mode played out on Gothenberg and India, the developers also pretty much confirmed the mode will have a full set of new maps. After being asked about the possibility for 2CP maps to be reworked, Keller also said "Reworking the original 2CP maps into another game mode would probably be just as hard if not harder than building a whole new map from scratch with that particular art kit."

Keller did admit that the team attempted to remake Paris and Horizon, although the development is "currently on hold and probably won’t be restarted."

The developers finally added that the existing 2CP maps will feature within the game in some capacity, most likely in the Arcade.

With the anticipation for Overwatch 2 higher than ever, hopefully, we'll see more details spared before its launch in 2022.
