Man Arrested For Sending 37 Death Threats To Square Enix
A 39-year old man from Saitama, Japan has been arrested after sending 37 death threats to game developers Square Enix last November. The frustrations of not being able to conquer the title Dragon Quest of the Stars left the suspect Toshiyuki Suga in an infuriating rage, resulting in the man losing control and sending a number of letters through the game's website.
According to Japanese news outlet TBS News, Suga sent multiple emails to the devs questioning "How can I win" before allegedly explicitly explaining that "I’m totally going to kill the person who set up this trickery".
Suga has reportedly confessed to the death threats to the developers, admitting "I couldn’t win, so I got p*ssed off" as the excuse to him lashing out.
Unfortunately for Square Enix, they're no strangers to a threatening email. In previous years a 25-year-old man was arrested after spending an inordinate amount of money in a failed attempt to coup a rare in-game item out of their lootbox system. The aggrieved player detailed: "I spent over 200,000 yen ($1,794) on the game and I didn’t get the item I wanted, so I sent the email out of revenge" after being arrested following an email that threatened to kill employees of the company.
Later the same year, another 40-year-old male threatened the company by suggesting he will "do a repeat of Kyoto Animation", which is a direct reference to an arsonist who set himself on fire in the Kyoto headquarters which subsequently saw the building go up in flames, claiming the lives of at least 35 employees.
As for Suga, he'll think twice before taking his anger to paper. May we suggest a duck-feather pillow slash punchbag or even a smiley-faced stress ball?
