Reliable Leak Suggests That Seraphine Will Join K/DA As The Fifth Member
Riot has been very busy recently, teasing two champions simultaneously and leading up to the new K/DA single "The Baddest". Fans have been eagerly awaiting the new song, which premieres today (August 27), but it looks like we might be getting even more of the band than we bargained for in a collaboration with the musical mage, Seraphine.
Seraphine has been Riot’s latest stroke of marketing genius, as the upcoming mid laner is teased with her own social media accounts. Fans have long theorised that Seraphine existed in the same canon as K/DA and True Damage, but her recent cover of K/DA’s debut single POP/STARS has confirmed it.
Following her cover, Seraphine Tweeted another cryptic image with the lyrics, "Can you feel the rush now?" from POP/STARS. The caption reads, "This is all thanks to you", spawning a new wave of speculation that Seraphine would be featuring in the new K/DA project.
Now, a very believable leaked image might've cemented all of the speculation as truth. The promotional image shows the four current members of K/DA alongside Seraphine, all dressed in never-before seen outfits.
The leak is owed credibility by the accurate art style and new outfits, which we know are different from those teased for ‘The Baddest’. Crucially, the leak appeared before Akali’s teaser image was released, but her hairstyle is identical to that in ‘The Baddest’. This rules out the leak being a fan creation.
The leak was all but confirmed when Seraphine herself replied to the leak, writing, "Iis that supposed to be me?? wow!". It’s unlikely that Riot would allow Seraphine to respond to a fake leak, and the reply even led some to theorise that Riot leaked the image on purpose.
It’s still unknown what role Seraphine will take in K/DA though. Right now she’s little more than an "aspiring songwriter + producer", but she could soon join K/DA as the fifth member. Others speculate that this will be a one-off collaboration, as Seraphine has only done solo work so far.
In the case that this leak is real, the question remains of who will become the voice of Seraphine? K/DA already has Madison Beer as Evelynn, Jaira Burns as Kai’Sa and (G)I-DLE members Miyeon and Soyeon as Ahri and Akali. Seraphine though, has so far been marketed to both a Western and Chinese audience.
While her recent covers have all been in English, some of her Tweets suggest that she also speaks Chinese. After Riot’s partnership with UMG and usage of top Chinese artists for six new songs, there’s a real possibility that Seraphine will be played by a Chinese singer at some point.
K/DA’s ‘The Baddest’ releases today at 12PM PT, but it’s unlikely that Seraphine will appear in the band so soon. It’s more likely that we’ll see her joining the band around Worlds when she becomes playable, with her K/DA outfit as a skin. Until then, Riot will continue to build the hype for the next champion Samira, who should be releasing in a few weeks' time.
