As Microsoft and Sony continue to duke it out with Game Pass and PS Plus/Now, Nintendo has crept up from behind with a treat for us retro gamers. While there were recent rumours that beloved N64 games would soon be joining the Switch Online subscription service, did anyone expect it to happen so quickly?

To say we're excited with these nostalgic classics are coming to Switch would be an understatement. The all-star lineup includes the likes of Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, with Paper MarioMajora's Mask, and more coming at a later date. There have been questions about whether Rare games would also make the leap, and thankfully, we might have some good news.

Are more Rare games coming to Switch?

Looking at the starting roster, there were some hopeful glances thanks to the fact Banjo-Kazooie is confirmed for a future release. Without going too deep into it, the fact Rare now falls under Microsoft's umbrella has led to a myriad of problems in terms of rights issues and remasters that have never happened.

According to trusted Nintendo leaker Zippo, Banjo-Kazooie is the tip of the rare iceberg. Posting on their site, Zippo claimed Banjo-Tooie, Killer Instinct, and Diddy Kong Racing are all in the pipeline for the N64 catalogue expansion. Basically, there's even more reason to shell out those extra dollars for Nintendo's lucrative service.

If Zippo is on the money, the '90s/'00s will come racing onto the Switch in a big way. Banjo-Tooie was the beefier sequel to Banjo-Kazooie and celebrated the turn of the Millennium. The bird and bear were back in action, with the villainous Gruntilda rising from the dead and working with her sisters to best them.

Killer Instinct is more of an out-there choice. Effectively Rare's version of Tekken, the fighter was ported from the arcade version and arrived on the N64 in style. Finally, Diddy Kong Racing needs no introduction - playing out as the developer's version of Mario Kart. We can't wait to hurl our Joy-Cons at the screen as Wizpig gets the gold.

What does the future hold for Rare on the Switch?

Yes, all of the above only solidifies the fact we'll all be splashing the cash for the N64 expansion, but yet again, we find ourselves thinking there's something missing.  Namely, we want to see more adult Rare games like GoldenEye 007 and Conker's Bad Fur Day on the Switch.

In particular, Conkers Bad Fur Day has become a cult classic, as the foul-mouthed squirrel drank and screwed his way through the Diddy Kong Racing spin-off. We've gone over the GoldenEye 007 situation before, with Nintendo and Microsoft rowing over a potential remake in 2008 and it eventually being canned. Elsewhere, the fact Microsoft is working on a Perfect Dark reboot suggests Joanna Dark's first two games won't be coming to the Switch.

If more than just Banjo-Kazooie are coming to Switch, it's possible Nintendo has brokered some kind of deal, then again, we'll have to wait for official word from the house that Mario built. Come on you cowards, we need to play as a pixelated Pierce Brosnan.
