When it was discovered that League of Legends was getting an MMO spinoff set in the universe of the game, there’s no doubt that it was a good reason to be excited. The MOBA took the esports world by storm, and its dense lore became a point of obsession for some players. The title is now public knowledge among LoL fans but very early in the process of development, so we might have to wait some time before we can get our hands on it, but knowing it’s on the way is exciting enough. However, fans may have been given a reason to be concerned.

Fans have been sideswiped by a tweet from the game’s executive producer Greg Street, suggesting there could be some elements of the game that won’t please everyone. ‘One thing I can say about the “unannounced” MMORPG is that you won’t all love every feature’, he begins. ‘We’re going to make some choices that you may not agree with. Players want different things in their games. That’s fine. Some of you (shudder) may not love the game at all. Also fine.’

Esports League Member Reacts To LoL MMO Developer Tweet

The tweet has concerned many fans, but it’s also spurred many of them to impart their opinions of what the game can do well, as it’s so early in development. Most notable among them is the co-founder of esports company OTK Tips Out, who has made a suggestion about the levelling system; ‘Please don’t neglect the levelling experience Greg! Give us a smooth, drawn-out progression curve with lucrative/ memorable milestones that we earn along the way.’

The tweet has spurred a lot of conversation, but at the end of the day, it’s a good attitude to take in game development. You can’t please everyone, especially in a medium as subjective as video games, so paying direct attention to what the developers want to do most is the best chance of the League of Legends MMO being a great title. Now, all we have to do is wait.
