Climbing up the League of Legends rank ladders, especially solo queuing, can be one of the more painful grinds in gaming, but once you reach the upper echelons of Apex, you'd expect a certain swagger to come with your titles - not a pair of handcuffs.

Well, for one Chinese LoL player, his rank was enough to land him in a spot of bother, having been a wanted criminal.

An off-duty policeman named Zhang Yihao was gaming in an internet café in Chongqing, China, where he and a group of friends were exploring Summoners Rift. In selected internet cafés in China, the tannoy announcement will be heard when a high-ranked player logs on to the servers, normally met with a heroes reception and a crowd gathered around their screens to marvel at the mechanics.

However, as one highly ranked player logged on to the server, Officer Yihao recognised the name on the speakers and went over to the screen to confirm his identity. Upon closer inspection, the policeman confirmed that the League of Legends fanatic was a wanted criminal, and made an immediate arrest.

As seen in the video by Elephant News, the officer bode his time to confirm the identity before arresting the suspect at his desk, alongside another officer with whom he was in the café with.

First reported by Biajiahao.com on August 8, the policeman allowed the "strongest king" to finish his game before making the arrest. According to the report, Officer Yihao explained that the ponytailed man asked to complete the game, in which he "lost miserably".

The charges against the gamer are unclear, although it was enough for his face to be recognisable by an off-duty policeman and his partner. With the cheek to ask for time to destroy a nexus, it's apparent that he met his arrest without constraint, and was filmed entering the station in handcuffs.

What started out as a common gaming session and coffee with friends ended up as a high-profile arrest. Not quite the usual afternoon that was planned for the off-duty officer...
