Last Of Us Two Fan Is Creating Ellie's Journal In Real Life
Few games have had as much impact on the world of survival horror games as Naughty Dog's The Last of Us. After 2013's The Last of Us became one of the best-selling PlayStation exclusives of all time, last year's The Last of Us Part II raised the bar.
While Part II was far from perfect and famously divided the game's fan base, it was a shocking story if nothing else. As players look ahead to the inevitable The Last of Us Part III, someone has recreated Ellie's journal in real life.
Why has someone recreated Ellie's journal in real life?
When making your way around the mould-infected apocalypse, one of The Last of Us Part II's many collectables is Ellie's journal. There are 20 entries scattered throughout the game - which help flesh out the Cordyceps-ravaged end of the world. From Ellie's first butterflies about Dina to her thoughts on THAT big death, Ellie's journal is a nice memento you can potentially take home.
Posting on Reddit, u/robertsimpson97 shared their faithful recreation of Ellie's journal. At the time of writing, they've drawn up 13 of the 20 entries. Each is on ruled yellow paper and has been drawn/written in Ellie's signature style. We're not sure what the Redditor plans on doing with the journal when it's finished, but we hope it gets sent to the printers.
Other Redditors were suitably impressed with the work. One fan wrote, "Oh damn, I thought this was from the game and was confused there wasn't a second picture. Amazing job!" Another added, "I'm so happy you are continuing Ellie's journal. Your work is spot on. I joined reddit specifically for your entries. Thank you so much for creating and sharing your work with us."
The project has been a labour of love, and although the OP admits they've had a "crazy" year, they're back on finishing Ellie's journal.
What's next for Ellie's journal from The Last of Us?
Only recently, a beautiful embroidery inspired by Ellie's tattoo caught the attention of Naughty Dog and prompted the developer to ask fans to share their best artwork and tattoos. Releasing Ellie's journal as an actual book would be a relatively short read, however, it's easy to imagine it selling on something like Etsy. Notably, the author has captured Ellie's distinct style.
Who knows, maybe we can get u/robertsimpson97 on board to write Ellie's journals for Part III? If not, they could always lend a hand on The Last of Us HBO series. At the moment, they only have plans to tackle the 20 pages from the main timeline, and it's clearly a time-consuming job.
Still, if the reception is as positive as it is now, they could expand their ambitions to cover all of Ellie's musings.
