Judge Dredd Coming In New Call Of Duty Crossover
Swapping Mega-City One for Verdansk '84 and the Cold War, our latest Call of Duty crossover claims Judge Dredd is ready to parachute into battle and clear up these lawless locales.
The action hero crossovers have been coming thick and fast, with the likes of Die Hard's John McClane and Rambo's John Rambo kicking butt. We've already covered who else deserves their time to shine, however, the addition of 2000 AD's Judge Dredd is an out-there choice we hadn't even considered.
Is Judge Dredd coming to Call of Duty?
The official CoD Twitter account promised a "new order is about to rise in Verdansk". With his golden outfit and shining badge, it didn't take a comic book aficionado to figure out we're about to get to grips with Judge Joseph Dredd. To be honest, it's nice to have a crossover Operator that isn't called John.
We can't wait to see Dredd use his signature Lawgiver gun on rivals in Warzone. More than just coming in Raven Software's battle royale favourite, the hashtags hint that Judge Dredd will also be jumping into the Black Ops Cold War multiplayer.
Considering Warzone gets so much attention these days, and with everyone jumping on the Call of Duty: Vanguard hype train, it would be nice to see Treyarch's 2020 title get some attention. After all, we've been promised Black Ops Cold War will be the franchise's most supported entry to date.
It's unclear when Judge Dredd will bulldoze his way into CoD, but given that 2000 AD publisher Rebellion Developments added "Who could it possibly be…? We’ll let you be the judge" in a reply, we guess it'll be pretty soon.
Who is Judge Dredd?
For those unfamiliar, Judge Dredd first appeared in 2000 AD comics back in 1977, although the character is still going to this day, Dredd was popularised by two live-action movies based on him. Appearing in the second issue of 2000 AD, Dredd occupies a dystopian feature where the world is overpopulated and riddled with gangs. Dredd is a street judge who works out of Mega-City One on the east coast of North America. This bloody law-enforcer is empowered to "summarily arrest, convict, sentence, and execute criminals".
In terms of the movies, he was first portrayed by Sylvester Stallone in 1995's Judge Dread. The cult classic was a campy trip to Mega-City One that has since seen a resurgence in popularity. Elsewhere, Star Trek snd The Boys' Karl Urban delivered a much grittier performance for 2012's Dredd. Despite hopes it would spawn a new franchise - and Urban frequently saying he'd love to return - the movie's disappointing box office means a sequel has slipped into development hell.
It's unclear which version of Dredd will appear in Call of Duty, but with Sly already in-game as Rambo, we'd guess developers will deliver either a comic book accurate version or one that resembles Urban. Who knows, maybe renewed interest in the character could finally lead to Dredd 2? Either way, Jude Dredd is coming to bust your face up soon. We can't wait to see a legion of Dredds filling the map.
