IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 is right around the corner, launching on January 20, 2021. Once more, you assume the role of agent 47, a bald-headed professional assassin ready to fulfil his next mission. Excitingly, IOI will be both publisher and developer for this title, giving the team full control of the rollout and so it promises to be a great one. Now that they have more say over the destiny of the franchise, it surely isn’t coming to an end, is it? Well, kinda.

Is Hitman 3 The Last Game?

In August of 2018, IO Interactive revealed the incorporation of Hitman 1 and 2 into the World of Assassination trilogy, of which Hitman 3 is the last game in the bunch. The announcement promised content updates to the old games based on new tech available to the more recent games, frequently evolving their gameplay experience as the developers made advancements with the game. As such, you will be able to load in locations from the first two games, allowing you to play through the entire trilogy.

Because it is the last game in the trilogy, IOI has revealed that the stakes will be high for agent 47, sending him on missions around the world for the most important contract of his career.

With Hitman 3, what is definitely coming to an end is this particular tied together campaign, the World of Assassination and its connected features. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Hitman is done for good.

What we do know is that IOI will be working on a game that is so far called “Project 007”, a James Bond video game which will explore the origin story of the British Secret Service agent. While we can expect to scratch many of the similar itches of the Hitman franchise, it might not be entirely your cup of tea.

Not much else is known for further future plans of IOI, but it appears likely that they won’t be abandoning their flagship universe, but will eventually revisit the world of agent 47. For now, you can hold yourself over by replaying the entire trilogy with the new systems in place, providing countless hours of content.

Hitman 3 will launch on Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and the Series X/S, Stadia, Nintendo Switch, and PC. You can pre-order your copy here.
