Invincible blew fans away upon launch and has become a fine piece of superhero media, and fans can't wait for its return with Invincible Season 2.

Fans have been caught off guard by the prospect of a new story based on the long line of source material from Robert Kirkman's original comics. So what's next for Invincible? Here's everything we know about the Invincible Season 2 release date, story, and more.

Invincible Season 2 Release Date

While the Invincible Season 2 release date remained up in the air for far too long, we know iit's coming alongside Season 3. The two new seasons were confirmed by the official Invincible account on Twitter, and have rekindled hope that the show could touch on many more narrative stretches that are packed into the comics.

After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, a new Amazon promo confirmed "late 2023" for the Invincible Season 2 release date. Kirkman is back on board writing, and with the Invincible Twitter account sharing a short video of Mark Grayson voice actor Steven Yuen in the recording studio in April 2022..

Although animating typically takes a lot longer than live-action filming, a late 2023 release is officially on the cards. Discussing Invincible Season 2 with Movie Dweeb in September 2022, Khary Payton confirmed:

"We finished season 2. We're on to season 3. But it's so hard to say right now. There was a glut of animation studios just trying to get so much done and literally it was like, projects sitting there with a backpack full of material. They're like, 'Anytime you’re ready.'"

From this tweet, it's clear that Steven Yuen's Mark will be making his return - though we're not sure what the show would look like without him.

We'd also expect the whole family back in Invincible Season 2, including Sandra Oh's Debbie and JK Simmons' Nolan Grayson. Other expected returns include:

  • Zachary Quinto's Robot
  • Gillian Jacobs' Samantha Eve Wilkins
  • Zazie Beetz as Amber Bennett
  • Andrew Rannells as William Clockwell
  • Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman
  • Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Sloan
  • Ross Marquand as Rudy Conners/Kursk/Bi-Plane
  • Seth Rogen as Allen the Alie
  • Mahershala Ali as Titan.

Following Kirkman's work on The Walking Dead, and with Invincible season 1 boasting the likes of Lauren Cohan and Michael Cudlitz, could we see more? Speaking to ComicBook.com, Kirkman gushed:

"I hesitate to name names, just because I would eventually like to bring everyone. I can't think of an actor on The Walking Dead I wouldn't want to work with again. It's an amazing group of actors. Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Jeffrey Dean Morgan... there's not really anyone I wouldn't want to bring in."

Teasing more from Mark Hamill as Art Rosenbaum, Kirkman said:

"Oh, man... the recording sessions with @HamillHimself were EPIC. Will Bulletproof appear in Season 2? We'll just have to wait and see!" Plus, it's probably safe to say that we'll have plenty more celebrity cameos like the first season. Make Danny DeVito a superhero, you cowards."

Invincible Season 2 Plot

By Invincible season 2, Mark's world has been completely turned upside down by the very literal and emotional damage left in the wake of Omni-Man's destruction. Still, there's an open offer to become Earth's champion from Cecil.

Season 1 ended with Ombi-Man destroying half of Chicago and fleeing Earth. We know Nolan will likely return with the Viltrumite race behind him - hoping to claim Earth under its tyrannical lead. If potentially becoming Earth's champion wasn't enough to contend with, Mark still has high school to finish. Jeez, teen life.

Discussing THAT finale montage, Kirkman told The AV Club:

"I really wanted to remind the audience of the many threads we had and wanted to reveal to them that anything and everything that happened in Season 1 matters. Even the small details will come into play in a big way in the future. I wanted to work in way more of those pops but it was becoming ridiculous.

"It also gives the sense that Nolan is off the table for now, so Mark doesn't have a mentor anymore but all the problems are still there. Now we’ll have to see a very different Invincible moving forward who has to figure things out on his own.

"It sets the stage for Invincible Season 2 and beyond to be a different story, which is where you want to be with a show like this one. You want every season to have a different kind of flavour and feel and exploration of the main character."

The end of the first season served as a reminder of the threads left hanging, with aliens on Mars and new friends of Titan to contend with - plus, there are seemingly endless plots for the show to pick up on from the comics.

Whatever is next for Invincible Season 2, it's going to be big. We just hope Mark is ready.
